Chap 8 (New Beginnings)

TK's POV

"Good choice," I nodded.

"Granted," Judge Sacks banged the gavel."Case dismissed."

"CJ," Jay stated.

"I'll see you out in the car," CJ looked at me and gave me a kiss on the cheek. "Don't take too long."

"I won't," I replied. CJ left the courtroom. I saw him kissing a blonde woman. He tried to go after CJ, but I stopped him. "She doesn't wanna see or speak to you right now."

"She was my wife and she did love me at one point in time," Jay stated.

"Yeah, and now she doesn't," I replied. "She's not herself right now. Her heart doesn't know how to feel. One minute she's laughing, and the next, she's zoning out and overthinking. Questioning everything and holding back tears." I looked at Jay. "She wants to feel okay, but she's breaking. No thanks to you." I went out to the car and got in. "You ready?"

"Let's go home," CJ nodded. We got on a plane and went back to Austin. Once we got home, I grabbed my go-bag. "Are you going to work?"

"I can still get half a shift in, babe," I smiled. "You just relax for the day. I'll be home tonight."

"Okay, baby," CJ stated.

"I love you," I replied asked left. I drove to the firehouse and walked in. "Is Dad is his office?"

"I thought you were in Chicago," Tommy stated.

"The case ended and we look the next flight back," I nodded. I went to Dad's office and closed the door. "So, CJ is officially a divorced woman."

"Okay," Dad looked at me. I sat in the chair and smiled. "TK, what's on your mind?"

"I think I'm gonna ask her to marry me," I replied.

"She just got divorced," Dad stated.

"So?" I asked. "We've been together for six months, Dad."

"Her divorce was just finalized," Dad stated.

"Dad, she has me thinking about a diamond ring. I wish she was able to meet Mom. She my little meant to be," I stated. "I wanna make her fall, say some things I never said. The only problem is I don't have a ring."

"Yeah, you do," Dad sighed.

"What?" I asked.

"Yeah," Dad nodded. He handed me a ring. "It was your mom's ring." I looked at him. "Only if you know she's the one."

"I know she is, Dad," I smiled. After shift, we met at my apartment. "The whole team's here, babe."

"That's why I made this killer spread," CJ smiled.

"You need to come by the firehouse," Marjan stated. "Cook for us sometimes."

"I don't cook outside of our home," CJ replied.

"So, how do you guys do it?" Nancy asked. "With CJ being married and all."

"My divorce was finalized today," CJ stated. "That's why we left for Chicago yesterday."

"Oh, wow," Paul stated.

"Yeah. Almost 10 years of our life," CJ replied.

"That long?" Marjan asked.

"We grew up together, got engaged at 18, married at 24," CJ stated. "We didn't even make it to 5 years of marriage."

"I don't like hiding anything from you," I sighed. CJ looked at me. "Did you know Jay was seeing someone else?"
