Chap 10 (Try Again)

Jay's POV

"No he didn't," I nodded. "There's no way."

"He let his foot off the gas," CJ replied as they handed her the money. "I know he did. I never beat Dom, and he never loses."

"Win or lose, baby," Benji stated. "You still get me."

"I don't think so, Benjamin," CJ nodded as she closed the door.

"Jay, get her to go with him," JJ stated.

"Alright," I sighed. I got out of the car. "Caylin, I'll take the car back to the shop for mechanics. You go have fun."

"Looks like I'm all yours," CJ nodded.

"I'll see you later," I stated. CJ threw the cash into the car. I got in and drove to a parking garage. I got out and got in a car with JJ. She started driving, following CJ and Benji. "Why did you pair me up with my ex-wife?"

"You guys work together really well," JJ stated.

"You're hilarious," I nodded. We saw them walk into an abandoned house. "This is where we found his first victim."

"Team, be advised, the unsub took our bait to his first location," I stated.

"Copy," Voight stated.

"We're standing by," Hailey replied.

"Why did you guys split?" JJ asked, trying to make small talk. "I mean, CJ's a beautiful girl."

"She is beautiful, but we had our differences that we couldn't work out," I replied. "I still back her up on her choices, but she's got her own life now."

"She still loves you," JJ replied.

"Did she tell you those exact words?" I asked.

"It's the way she acts," JJ nodded.

"I found my best friend and my soulmate in one, and I screwed it up," I sighed. I kept my eyes on the house." I still love her, but I was the one who filed for divorce." We heard a gunshot and saw a flash. "Shots fired!" I opened my front door and a second shot was heard with a second flash. "No, no, no." I kicked in the door and withdrew my gun. "CPD!" The guy was on the floor. I checked for a pulse and he was gone. I saw CJ in the corner with a gun in her hands. She put the gun down. "CJ?" I ran up to her. "I'm sorry." I put pressure on her wound and she screamed. "I'm so sorry."

"Jay, get me to a hospital," she huffed.

"Okay," I nodded as the rest of the team joined us. I picked her up. "Let's get you to Med."

"We can call an ambo," Adam stated.

"Dispatch, this is 50-21 Henry," Hailey stated. "We have an officer down. Send an ambo to 9473 West Kelin."

"50-21, ETA on that ambo is 10 out," dispatch stated.

"Copy," Hailey stated.

"No," I replied. "I can get her to Med a lot faster than an ambo can get to us."

"Quit yapping and get me to the hospital," CJ stated.

"Okay," I nodded. I got her in the back of the car. "Are you driving, JJ?"

"You take her," JJ handed me the keys. "I'll ride back with Spence."

"Okay," I stated. I got into the car and started driving. "Hang in there, CJ. Just hang in there for me, baby." We got to Chicago Med. I got out and opened the door. I carried CJ into the ER. "Maggie, I need help."

"Dr. Choi, trauma 5," Maggie pointed.

"On the bed," Ethan stated. He started checking her vitals. "Do we need to report this to the police?"
