This weekend was Halloween. It was so much fun. I spent Friday and Saturday night going to parties with Leah , Willow and Mia. Preston came too and even brought his bandmates Elijah and Levi. It was a really good time.
On Saturday night, before we went out to parties, Leah and I tested our fakes at The Basement and got in fairly easy. Though my height and build may have brought on some suspicion, once they swiped my ID , they didn't fight me on it. Can you believe our fakes were so legit, they actually swiped. Whoever Preston's connection was, business must be booming.
Preston and I's matching costumes were a hit. He looked so hot as a fake priest. It felt almost sinful lusting after him dressed the way he was. Mom was far from impressed by our costumes. She said they were sacrilegious and incredibly inappropriate. As if I cared what she thought. She was such a fake Catholic. She only showed up to mass for Easter, Christmas and any Sunday Grandma was in town.
We spent the whole weekend partying to the point that I had a cumulative hangover and was incredibly tired by the end of it all. If I never saw a bottle of Hennessy again in my life, I'd be fine with that.
I was laying in bed on Sunday night, scrolling through apps on my phone when Mom knocked on my door. I don't know why she knocked since she just barged in anyway. I sat up in bed and gave her a curious look. She was holding a small box in her hands and placed it on my bed.
"Drake came by earlier while you were sleeping," she said.
"Did you release the hounds on him?" I sighed.
"We don't have any dogs Parker."
I rolled my eyes wishing my mom could find her sense of humor somewhere. Drake had a lot of nerve showing up at my house after everything.
"He dropped this off for you. I guess it's all of the stuff he'd collected from when you were dating."
I opened it up and frowned. There were Polaroid pictures of us, old movie ticket stubs, a few notes we had written each other in middle school and stuff like that. I was surprised to see the necklace I had thrown at him in the beginning of the year. He demanded I give it back to him since it was hundreds of dollars with a real diamond in it. I don't know why he was trying to give it back to me again but I didn't trust it.
So today at school, before lunch period, I maneuvered through the halls stealthily to Drakes locker. There were three people I specifically did not want to get caught by: Drake, Elizabeth and Preston. I only intended to return the necklace Drake was trying to give back to me. If any of those three saw me, they'd make a bigger deal out of it than it was.
Unbeknownst to me, Drake and Elizabeth were ditching their classes to hook up. As I rounded the corner to Drake's locker I saw them. He pulled away from Elizabeth's face just in time to catch me in the corner of his eye. I tried to run out of their line of vision.
"Stalking me now, Parker?" He called.
I groaned and my eye twitched as I realized I'd been spotted. Since the damage was already done, I decided to go on and give him the necklace as planned.
"Not stalking. Just returning this to you...again." I held up the necklace and gleefully watched Elizabeth's face turn sour.
"What's that?" She asked, unable to mind her own business.
"It's a stupid necklace your boyfriend bought me in 8th grade."
"I'm not her boyfriend," Drake said a bit too quickly.
I could tell the comment stung and almost felt bad for Elizabeth when her face changed from sour to heartbroken. Nevertheless, she continued to stand by his side, proud to be his ...? Friend with benefits? Booty call? Sneaky link?
I don't know what they are but I couldn't care less.
"Keep it, I don't want it." Drake scoffed.
"Fine," I shrugged. "I'll just pawn it for some cash. Maybe I'll buy my boyfriend something with the money."
Drake's face went from blasé to absolutely pissed. The thought of me using his necklace to buy Preston a gift must've gotten to him. He quickly reached out and snatched the necklace from me.
"On second thought,"
Drake unlatched the chain and placed the necklace around Elizabeth's neck. I couldn't believe he just regifted it right in front of me.
"Here babe," he said, unconvincingly. "This is a real diamond. You like?"
"I love." She said.
Also unconvincingly.
The whole thing was hard to watch. Very cringe inducing. Drake pretending to care about Elizabeth. Elizabeth pretending not to be offended that she had just received a regifted necklace. The two of them pretending that their situationship was anything more than the meaningless affair it was.
"You two are made for each other," I snarkily commented as I went to walk away.
I didn't get far before Elizabeth put her hand on me and swung me around.
"Do you ever get tired of acting like you're better than everyone else?"
"I don't think I'm better than anyone," I said. "Except maybe him." I pointed at Drake which only seemed to infuriate Elizabeth even more.
"Don't talk about him like that. You're not better than him. He's too good for you. You're just the attention seeking slut that everyone in school has seen naked. Here's a tip: if you're gonna leak your nudes to the entire school, at least have the body for it."
"Is that what he told you?" I scoffed. "That I leaked my nudes to the school?"
I totally brushed off her snide remark about my underdeveloped body. Not only was Drake lying to people by saying that he broke up with me but he was also saying I leaked my nudes by my own free will? The nerve of this guy. Always trying to paint himself out to be a saint. Don't get me wrong, I'm far from perfect but holy shit, at least I can admit my faults and take accountability for my actions to some degree.
"Just stay away from us. Stay away from him."
"Gladly. You do know I have an actual boyfriend right?" I said, proudly flaunting my budding relationship with Preston.
"Whatever you think you have with Preston Dunn is a joke. You're nowhere near his type. He'll be tired of you soon enough."
Elizabeth was trying to plant seeds of doubt in my mind. I hate to admit that it was working. I was already super self conscious about not being Preston's type but other people noticed it too.
"For the record," I was going to lay into Elizabeth about how Drake was begging for me to get back together with him and basically groveling at my feet but I bailed out. I decided to take the high road... sort of. "I am better than Drake... and quite frankly, Elizabeth; So are you."
I spun around so fast, I couldn't get a good look at Drake's face. Elizabeth, on the other hand, seemed like she'd be thinking about my last comment for the rest of the day. I mean it too. Elizabeth could do a lot better than Drake.
I did.
