I'll be honest, I'm not exactly sure how I feel about Preston returning to the band. After everything they've put him through, I didn't think they deserved his forgiveness. On the other hand, music makes Preston so happy and he loves playing with them. He also must love his friends a lot, being so gracious after the way they treated him.
The entire band, except Lincoln, came to the garage today in order to plead their case.
I was sitting on the futon where they used to practice, studying for our upcoming midterms. I promised mom I would spend some time on my academics if I was going to hang around with Preston. With no intentions of failing the semester, I didn't mind agreeing to that.
Preston was working on his own car, giving himself an oil change, replacing the windshield wipers, the wiper fluid, the lights and washing it. I had never seen him work so hard but he loved his car.
When the guys came through the large sectional doors, they looked kind of nervous. Preston turned to them. Anticipating a client, he was just as surprised as I was when we saw the three boys. Elijah, Levi and Dylan stood there with guilt written all over their faces.
"Woah, Dude. What happened to your face?" Levi commented, reaching out.
"What are you guys doing here?" Preston swatted his hand away ignoring the question.
The boys looked at each other, all of them afraid to speak first. Preston rolled his eyes and shook his head.
"Never mind. Just leave," he spat before returning to the car.
"Wait, P," Levi called him.
"What?"
"We came to apologize," he admitted. "Right guys?"
"Yeah."
"We're sorry, Preston."
I kept eavesdropping and watched as my boyfriend looked at them funny.
"Where's Lincoln?" He asked.
"He's out," Elijah said. "We kicked him out of the band."
Preston looked at his friends suspiciously.
"Really?"
"Yeah bro," Dylan nodded his head. "When he wouldn't agree to apologize to you guys, we realized what a dick he is."
"Yeah, that and he tried to get us to play your song for Parker like it was his own. He's such a poser," Elijah sucked his teeth.
"Took you this long to figure that out?" I muttered under my breath.
All of the boys turned their heads toward me. I guess I wasn't as discreet in my hatred as I thought I was.
Elijah walked over to me and offered me a friendly smile.
"We're sorry to you too Parker," he said. "We should've jumped in on Lincoln when Preston beat his ass at the club. What he did was low."
"And creepy..." I added. "But thanks for the apology."
I could see the corners of Preston's mouth turn up. He wanted to smile at the fact that the boys were there but refused to let his excitement show.
"So what?" Preston shrugged. "You want to get the band back together with no singer?"
"Well..." Elijah looked down nervously. "We were hoping you could sing lead..."
