Mari ran after Cloud and Emilia, Mari couldn't bear to lose him. She jumped at Cloud and they both fell to the floor and had a small chuckle before hugging each other tightly. They weren't gonna let go. And they never planned to.
Cloud: "I love you Mari."
Cloud said softly as he repeatedly kissed Mari's bright red cheeks. Mari tried to cover her face but Cloud just moved her hands aside and kept kissing her. Mari was so overwhelmed and she couldn't do anything about it.
Emilia oddly enough, slowly left... Giving them some space, weird... But they were happy about it. They hugged each other tightly and told each other all about what happened in their lives while they were apart. Mari cried as Cloud talked about his mother's death and Cloud was furious upon hearing what Jax had done.
It was a great d___, they were finally... Together, like two lost souls who had finally found their purpose. It was almost as if the stars had aligned just for them. Just for this moment.
She didn't ever wanna leave this, she didn't ever wanna wake up. So she hugged Cloud tighter. She held onto him like she was holding on to her last bit of hope. Like how the moon illuminates the dark night sky.
But... Alas, everything has an end. Even the things that haven't... Started.
Mari woke up. She quickly jumped up and checked her surroundings... Another dream. Another, fucking, dream. It was like her mind was tormenting her. Tormenting her about what could have. And what didn't happen.
But eventually, she laid back down. It's been a week since the 3rd day and she hasn't left her house since that day. She's spent the entire time in bed. She didn't even bother to get out of bed just to eat.
It hurt her so much, when Emilia told her that... That Cloud would be leaving. It hurt her as she watched Cloud get dragged away. She didn't want to be embarrassed so she ran. She ran home. And ever since that day, she never... Left.
Ernst had tried to hopefully get her out of her home. He's knocked on her door multiple times, spam called her phone till she picked up but nothing worked. It always lead to him being ignored.
Except today... Today Ernst was more determined than usual... It was weird, he non stopped spam called her and was basically about to break the door down.
So Mari got up, she got up and opened the door. Mari saw Ernst clutching a letter on his hand and he quickly gave it to Mari.
Mari took it and Ernst slowly walked away, Mari was a bit confused but she didn't really care so she shut the door and went back to bed. She checked her phone hoping that maybe... Maybe Cloud had texted her... Still... Nothing.
So eventually, as the solution to all her problems. She tried to sleep again, yet the lingering thought of the letter still sits in her mind.
The following day... Still nothing from Mari, just laying down... Doing nothing... She's just there. It was honestly so depressing, the once bright and cheerful girl is now just... Just like a corpse.
She checked her phone again... Still... Nothing. Except from messages from a ton of students asking her how shes doing... Which is most likely Kingsley's doing so she just ignores it.
This cycle repeats for a few days until eventually... She remembers the letter Ernst gave her so she opens the letter and starts reading it.
To the moon of my life, Mari.
I really hope this letter finds you well, how are you? I'm sorry for not having texted you for... Forever, Emilia took my phone. I really hate her for that y'know. I have no freedom, I feel like a slave but eh... We can't do anything about it now... Can we? Anyways, you've been having those dreams too right? They... They haunt me about what could have been... Oh and... if you're wondering why Ernst has this letter... I gave it to him, He seemed... Trustworthy-ish... Well, if this letter doesn't find you then fuck Ernst. But if it does, say thanks to him for me won't you? This is probably the last time I'll ever send you anything like this. Emilia is super strict. But if you do send me any letters, I'll write back... I'll try to at least. But honestly... What went wrong? I just can't understand, was it from the beginning when I should've y'know... Stopped my mother's cancer, I definitely couldn't but I wish I did... Or was it... Was it when I chose to see my mother? Well, I know you would've chosen to see her too if you knew it would be the last time you'll ever see her... I guess we'll never find out what went wrong. I guess we'll never find out why this happened to us... In all honesty, I hate this... I hate... Us. It would've been better if I had stayed in the gang so at least... At least you would hate me, because it hurts me more to know someone is waiting for me while I'm stuck in this place. I dream of what could have been, what could have happened if things didn't go wrong... You know how us humans... We take the moon for granted? Well... I took the moon for granted too and now... I lost it. The moon had been the light in the dark night sky.. I always wanted to see the starts because everyone calls them beautiful and pretty but honestly... I always found the moon better, it stood out. It's the reason we can even see in the dark. You are my moon. Now I feel like... Like I'm years away from you. Some people are still with you but unfortunately I'm not and it hurts. Because I know... I was the sun to your moon. It's crazy, isn't it? Maybe we weren't destined to be us. Maybe we were destined to be important to each other yet never actually being with each other. Do you think... The universe is against us? I mean, all the fun times we had, all the memories that'll forever be etched into my mind and all the sweet times that'll forever be etched into my heart... Do you think they gave us all those just to hurt us in the end?... I've been blabbering too much... Anyways, I wrote this letter to say I'm sorry and... I love you. I know I know, I'm a hopeless romantic. We can never get back together and I know it. But... Honestly, I miss us... Ah, I'm... Blabbering again. Sorry, I just have so much I want to say... I wish I could just say it to you face to face but... Eh, Oh... This letter is super long... Super super long. Like, would you even read this? I remember how bored you get when you were forced to read stuff as seatwork. You'd always just ask me to read them then go to sleep... You were super cute as you slept y'know.. I'm being too suspicious, I'll try to send you more letters but for now... I'll lay low, Emilia and her maids might find me... Sorry but... I'll try. Good... Goodbye.
Sincerely,
The sun of your life, Cloud. The letter was drenched with Mari's tears. Tears were streaming down her face and landing on the letter. She keeps the letter safely inside her drawer and decides... To go back to sleep, just for now. Waiting for what she believes... Is the perfect time to write back to Cloud.
Except... Cloud didn't have a perfect time... In fact, he didn't have any time at all. He was caught by Emilia writing another letter. So everything was taken away from him, he couldn't do anything. All he could do was follow Emilia's orders and pray that one day... He'll finally be set free.
