Nancy's POV:
I'm walking down the empty hallways, on my way back to class from talking with another teacher. As I approach the stairs, I hear some strange sounds coming from the top. It sounds like...crying.
As I slowly walk up the stairs, I can hear the cries more and more. When I get to the top, I see who it is, and I'm shocked. It was Robin.
She was hugging her knees while her face was buried to hide the sound of her cries. I couldn't believe what I saw, she's never been like this before.
Me: "Robin?"
She immediately stopped crying, quickly wiped her eyes of any tears she had and looked up at me.
Robin: *sniffles* "Oh...hey, Nancy."
Me: *softly* "What's wrong?"
Robin: "I... I don't want to talk about it."
Me: *softly* "Well... you know you're welcome to talk to me about anything, if you want, right?"
Robin: *sniffles* "Yeah, but... this just feels more... different. You might not like it."
I sit down next to Robin.
Me: *softly* "Try me."
Robin takes a deep breath.
Robin: "Alright, well... I was just walking down the halls up here, and... a few people walking the opposite direction... started making fun of me."
Making fun of Robin? Why would they do that to her?
Me: *softly* "Oh... I'm sorry that happened."
Robin: *sniffles* "Don't be... you weren't them."
Me: *softly* "I know, but... I still care. Is it alright if I ask exactly what they said?"
Robin: "Well... they called me certain names, like... the names people call others who are... different."
This confused me a little bit.
Me: "Different how?"
Robin: "Are you sure you want to know?"
Me: "Well... you don't have to say, if you don't want to."
Robin: "No, I... think you should know. They... used the words "dyke," and "queer," and... just a bunch of those kinds of names."
My eyes widened with shock.
Me: "Why would they say that you?"
Robin: "Because... it's true."
Robin's POV:
As soon as I said that, I broke down in more tears, and Nancy pulled me into a hug and let me cry in her arms. It was really embarrassing for me to be seen like this, but I just really needed to let it all out of my system. When we pulled away, she wiped away some of the tears I still had on my eyes.
Nancy: *softly* "Don't let those people get to you, they obviously don't know you like I do."
Me: *sniffles* "I know, but... I actually like this one girl a lot, and... I was crying because I'm scared that she might not feel the same way."
Nancy: "Oh, really...? Well... maybe I can help you tell her how you feel."
Me: "Umm... it might not be that simple."
Nancy: "Why is that?"
Me: "Well... the girl I like is really close to me, and if I say how I feel to her and she doesn't feel the same way... it could ruin our friendship."
Nancy: "Is it alright if I ask who it is?"
I took a deep breath to prepare myself for what I was about to do.
Me: "Does this answer your question?"
After saying that, I did the most unexpected thing ever: I kissed Nancy. When I pulled away, she looked a little shocked, but to my absolute surprise, she put her hand on the side of my face, and kissed me back. We both kissed for a few good seconds, and we pulled away.
Nancy: *smiles sweetly* "It certainly answers your question, too."
