After a long day or spiritual day in Vero’s point of view which somehow felt like he was out for two days or maybe more, Vero was on his way home deserving a long nice nap. The sun had fallen, replaced by the dark night sky filled with stars. Upon his way home, he discovered that there were many bystanders and a paramedics van crowding the area in front of his house.

Without even realizing it, his paced increased as he made his way through the crowd, his heartbeat quickening, eyes filled with concern and then his nose picked up on a familiar scent. And another scent. Blood. He tried to continue but an officer held him back. Vero almost complied until he caught the sight the familiar figure lying on the patient Transport Hydraulic Stretcher

“That’s my grandpa! Let go!” He demanded as he forced his way through and stood next to his grandpa who looked unconscious. “What happened?”

“House robbery, he was severely beaten by what we suspect to be a couple of thug members.” A female officer explained based on the evidence they found and what witnesses had told her.

“Grandpa?” He silently called him, gently nudging him to get his attention. The gentle-hearted elderly man awoke and noticed the watered, red eyes of his grandson.

"Vero...?" He called, silently.

“Grandpa, how’re you holding up?” He asked, trying to hide the worry in his voice and make the moment less serious and heartbreaking.

“Like you seriously gotta ask? I feel like I just overworked my body in the gym and now all my muscles are aching. My heads throbbing so much it feels like it’s almost gonna explode.” He replied in a tone to lighten up the mood a bit.

“Yeah, maybe you should stop moving it and rest a little. So the giant ball inside your head would stop bouncing around.” He suggested letting out a chuckle escape his mouth. His grandpa chuckled as well, enjoying the light moment.

“Snowflake, what do you think I was doing before you nudged me?” His grandpa asked. “Do me a favor and try to keep our home spotless and not finish the groceries to quick. And try to keep the fighting outside so I don’t have to replace the furniture when I get back.”

“You need me to hire you head masseuse while I’m at it because you look like you need one.” He suggested sarcastically.

“Real funny, snowflake.” Was the last thing he said before losing conscious? Vero only managed to call him the last time before he was escorted into the ambulance van. Vero stricken with grief and anger clenched his fists. Kai arrived a few seconds later with a worried eyes already knowing what happened. She gave Vero a comforting hug. The young man on the other hand didn’t return it as he let the negative emotions build up inside.

“What did you find?” An officer standing by the asked another one who just came out. The two immediately caught Vero’s attention. The young man listened to their conversation using his demonic hearing.

“This. One of the guys clumsily left this with his fingerprints all over it. He probably left it because he was too proud of what he did. What a moron, am I right?” The officer replied showing him the silver metal bat with a bit of blood on it. After hearing what the officer said, Vero got out of Kai’s hug, made his way towards the officer and snatched the bat of his hand. He didn’t even acknowledge the protest and started sniffing it, he caught the scent he was hoping and luckily it was fresh.

He firmly pressed the bat against the officer’s chest then made his way inside followed by a concerned Kai who kept calling to get his attention but was ignored. When he reached his room, he took off his white jacket, opened his closet and took out his navy blue, Alpha slim Fit N-3B Parka.
