Fitness Test

The bell rang loudly again signaling it was time for the next period. For some students it was free period meaning they were free to do anything they wished just as long they didn’t break school policies until the bell rang again. For Vero and his classmates, it was PE. But there weren’t the only ones, there was also a group of other female students not too far from them having their own fitness tests.

They were all dressed in their black PE attire which consisted of short sleeved T-Shirt and long pants, featuring white side decals, and a pair of sport sneakers.

“Ok, you lazy degenerates!” Began the coach holding a list of the workout schedules he planned for today. “Today we’ll be having our annual fitness test so I hope you’re all ready and if you’re not…” He paused for a moment to let out a evil-like chuckle. “You’ll probably be dead from your heart bursting.”

“Say what?” A student grumbled feeling a bit of anxiety form bit by bit in his stomach.

“Gimme a break.” A student groaned.

“The 100 meters, the distant throw, the running long jump, pull ups and last the fifteen hundred meters!” The coach told them, earning murmurs and groans from every boy who stood in front of him.

“He can’t be serious can he?”

“I think he is.”

“Man, I swear he’s trying to kill us every time.”

While everyone was busy complaining or groaning about the fitness tests, the only one who seemed calm was Vero. Although he couldn’t deny he was feeling a bit apprehensive because of the events since this morning.

“Now that I think about it, there’s a part of me that’s not so sure I should be doing this because I still don’t know what’s happening with my body. I should ask coach for a pass but knowing him, he’ll probably think I’m asking for a VIP treatment and as punishment, he’ll double my tests. No, he'll probably triple them and if I make it through, he'll quadruple them so I'm screwed either way.”

Vero thought when he was called along with his group which was group two. Vero stood in line with everyone else and not that far was the goal. “So not that far is the goal, huh? It kinda seems shorter to me than it usually is.”

“On your marks—get set—” Coach blew his whistle, everyone sprinted as fast as they could except for one. “Yeager, run!” Vero was snapped out of his train of thought, he bent down in a runner’s position and then shot forward. Although, he didn’t feel like he was running at all, everything, everyone wasn’t moving backwards like it was when someone was moving forward, everyone was bewildered. Vero was in the air like he had jumped up accidently before falling on his hands.

“Well that was weird. What the heck was that about?” A bewildered Seth spoke who was standing near Vero with a look of small amusement.

“Woah, look at this.” Dean called everyone’s attention. There was a small sinkhole where Vero’s left foot was. “There’s a small hole in the ground. The ground must’ve been really loose here?”

“The maintenance crew is really slacking off.” Seamus said.

Next on the list was the distance throw. When Vero’s turn was up, he swung his arm but he let go a bit too late which resulted in the ball bouncing off the ground and soar high up in the sky past normal limits. Once again, everyone was stumped.

“Look how high it went!”

“Yeah, but it bounced!”

“Amazing!”
