Chapter 34

Emma sat near an unconscious Levi, her knees to her chest. Silence filled the air, they were surrounded by a lit campfire in the middle of the woods. Enemies and allies all gather in one spot around that same fire, she blinked and stared off into the distance. Everything seemed all too fake as if she was in a never-ending nightmare and someone needed to wake her.  She wished that someone would be Levi but he was lying beside her wrapped in bandages from head to toe. The bandages were real, the scars on her hands were real, and where they were now, the heat from the glares and fire that waved in the air, was real. She was terrified. 

" So is anybody going to help me out with these potatoes? Or are we just going to glare at each other? " The scouts stood with arms crossed glaring at the Marleyan soldiers. " Heh, we've gone from trading blows to breaking bread inside of a day, huh? Out of curiosity. What made you change your mind? Especially you? " He looked right at Emma, she nearly shrunk under his gaze and tightened her knees to her chest. " Leave me out of this childish argument. " She adverted her eyes once more. " Heh, we were the ones who were trying to save the world. We were the ones trying to keep Eren and Zeke from coming into contact, if you hadn't stepped in at the last second and helped them. " 

" I'm only repeating what I already told you, General, but nobody here wants to be an accessory to genocide. Thats why we're all hiding out in the woods eating stew, instead of celebrating in town. " Silence rang in the air, thick silence that could kill, everyone glanced between each other, an enemy with the enemy were now on the same alliance. " So you've finally realized who the good guys are huh? "

" Are you kidding me? Do you seriously think you're in the right, you're crazy. You people spent years trying to murder us all, and we're the bad guys cause we didn't roll over and die? Screw that! We learned to fight like hell because the only other option we had was to let your titans eat us all alive! We found a way to survive and now you're gonna call us devils for it? "

" Jean... " Emma muttered. " No! Why are you even here? You shouldn't be here in your condition and you're putting yourself and that baby at risk! " Emma's shoulders jumped at the sudden anger of Jean, he had never yelled at her like that, and she shrunk under his gaze. " Baby? " Denise was there, the doctor that worked with Zeke when they tried to abduct her all those years ago. Hanije looked over at her. " You're pregnant? " 

" Is that a problem? " Hanije crossed her arms, she seemed annoyed at the doctor though the two studied the same things, the Titans and titan shifters. Denise pushed up her glasses. " It's just, that titan shifters don't have the ability to bear children, their bodies are different and the way they form and turn shouldn't allow it. I've studied this for years. " Denise crossed her arms, all that remained of the scouts looked at one another, Emma's mouth fell slightly agape before she looked over at Hanije. " W-well she's already done it once before. " Hanije finished, silence rung in the air, Denise furrowed her eyebrows and placed a finger on her chin. " You're the devil everyone talks about. " Magath had said, drinking another sip of his beer.

" Tch, is that really how you want to go? " Emma stood up. " We can finish this here and now if that's all you want to talk about! " Annie and Reiner both stood up to defend their general. Emma laughed at the sight. " You guys want to fight too? I'll take you both one, I have 10 years of anger built up. " Reiner was the first to step forward. " We can finish this later, little Yeager. " 

" What? " She hissed, in seconds she hit him with an awesome right hook to the face. He nearly fell from the hit causing not only the Marley squad to shoot up but the Scouts to join her side. 

" Emma. " Hanije warned, as she continued to stir the pot. " Back down, we have other things to worry about. You can kill each other later. " She let out a breath of anger, fists clenched as she glanced down to Reiner and then at Annie who caught her eye. " Fine. " 

" Tell me. " Her back was turned. " Can you honestly bring yourself to kill him? Are you truly ready to kill Eren? " 

" I don't think that's our only option. "

" I'll do it. " Emma said, she didn't look at her, frankly glanced over her shoulder in the fit of silence. Her friends looked at her. " Your own twin brother? "

" He is our enemy, and if any of us want to live on. We have to do what we have to do. "
