"Wait so you got him to do...what?" Mickey asked. Vanity sighed as she had to explain it all again.
"I told Johnny to give Steve a choice between him and Malcolm. Then i called Steve and gave him a nudge towards Malcolm." She said and crossed her feet over each other as she laid back on the sofa. Mickey still didn't seem to understand "But why?" he asked.
"Because, Steve wasn't gonna pick Johnny anyway. i mean come on you know as well as i do Steve can't say no to him. So when Johnny leaves the band he will be able to do better things, be treated better. what's the point of him being with people who make him miserable?" Vanity asked, filing her nails as if she wasn't bothered.
"It's genius really Mick." Tiffany said as she placed herself on her boyfriend's lap. "Genius or incredibly stupid? She may have just broken up one of the greatest bands in history." Mickey raised his voice as he pointed at Vanity.
"Well when Johnny gets out, i'll get Sid out as well. Johnny wouldn't have let Sid go as easily as Sid can let Johnny go." Vanity explained "yeah and what makes you think Sid's gonna let Johnny go so quickly?" He asked, sceptical of Vanity's way of thinking.
"Because Sid has me. Sid will always have me. and when the time is right both me and Sid will drop those stupid fucking sheep and go out on our own. He doesn't need them. But the only person stupid enough to get rid of such greatness like Johnny is of course Steve and his lap dog Cookie." She smirked and so did Tiffany, she'd talked it over with her and Tiffany agreed it was a great idea.
Mickey nodded "I guess you're right. When is this grand scheme happening then?" He asked, placing his hand on Tiffany's thigh. Vanity looked at her non-existent watch on her wrist. "Should be happening right about now."
And she was right. Johnny had been called down to the hotel lobby where around a coffee table sat Malcolm, Steve, Paul and Sid.
They all seemed to be preparing for something. and as though Johnny could sense it, he didn't expect anything good to come from it.
Malcolm gave Johnny a quick but hidden, bitter smile. Tension hung thickly in the air as the weight of Vanity's influence played its part in the unfolding of Steve's decision.
He shifted uncomfortably, his eyes darting between Johnny and the others. The decision weighed heavily on his shoulders, a burden he couldn't escape. Paul, sensing the imminent confrontation, exchanged a knowing glance with Malcolm, who leaned back in his chair, observing how the scene would unfold with a sinister smirk.
The room felt like a pressure cooker, the silence broken only by the occasional ring of the phone at the reception or distant chatter from guests. Malcolm sensed that Steve wasn't going to be able to do this on his own, so as always he took matters into his own hands. "Nice of you to join us John. Do sit down, you make the place look untidy." He commented with a subtle bitterness to his tone. Steve continued to avoid the penetrating intensity of Johnny's stare. The room seemed to hold its breath, waiting for the revelation that would alter the course of their history.'
Johnny sat down. He seemed calm, but an undercurrent of anticipation lingered. Sid, Paul, and Steve remained silent observers, each with their own stakes in the unfolding drama.
"I do believe we have some business to discuss? A change in routine one might say" Malcolm spoke in his usual philosophical way.
"What sort of change?" Johnny asked with a raised eyebrow. "Well to put it bluntly Steve and i had a very long conversation, i believe you know what it was about and well, i completely agree with everything he said" Malcolm continued, his voice dripping with a mix of condescension and amusement, Johnny narrowed his eyes, a mix of suspicion and defiance in his gaze. "Well i'm glad there's no hard feelings" He said, almost believing that Steve had actually fired Malcolm from being their manager, however with the way Steve stared down at his feet as though they were the most interesting things on the planet dampened Johnny's confidence. Perhaps he just felt bad for Malcolm. He was a father figure to him afterall.
