It had been a week now and the boys were going back home to prepare for the journey to Rio.
Sid was in a taxi with Phoebe on his way to the airport, he had to be supervised and since Phoebe was with the lads in America she was forced by Malcolm to stay with Sid, he went to accompany the boys to the airport she'd been nagging him and nagging him about what he was going to do now that the band had kicked Johnny to touch. he was too spaced out to even register what she was saying to him.
"I'm gonna go home, see Vanity." He said whilst chewing on the sweets that he'd bought for himself "You just go and do that then won't ya." She tutted folding her arms "Yeah i will" He said shaking his head.
The taxi weaved through the crowded streets of America, heading towards the airport where the rest of the band and their entourage were preparing for the journey back to England. Sid, however, seemed to exist in his own world, the effects of the recent events still echoing in his distant gaze.
Phoebe sighed, frustration evident in her tone. "Sid, are you even listening to me? What's your plan now that Johnny's out?"
Sid turned his head slightly, looking at her as if he'd just noticed her presence. "Huh? Oh, Johnny? Yeah, he's gone. Vanity will be glad to hear about it won't she."
Phoebe shook her head, irritated. "You're impossible, Sid. What are you going to do now? Just play along with Malcolm's games?"
Sid smirked, his mind seemingly elsewhere. "Malcolm's got big plans, Phoebe. If Vanity trusts him so do i."
Phoebe rolled her eyes. "You're delusional, Sid. She has you spun round her little finger doesn't she? Steve might have made the band but Johnny was the main focus. What do you even care about? You're just letting Malcolm manipulate you."
Sid's eyes narrowed as he chewed on another sweet, seemingly unfazed by her words. "Malcolm's got it all figured out. Rio, the movie, the whole deal. I'm in on it, and I'm going to enjoy every moment of it."
"Well do me a favour yeah? Lay off the drink a bit." She said placing her hands in her lap. "Alright" Sid said putting another one of his sweets into his mouth.
"I'm being serious...and lay off the junk as well!" She raised her voice. Sid scrunched his face at her "Alright alright, i promise. cross mi heart and hope to die" Sid smirked at the end. Phoebe huffed.
"I'm gonna enjoy myself, if it kills me" Sid said as he finished the last of his sweets.
The taxi pulled up to the airport, and Sid nonchalantly got out, leaving Phoebe in the backseat, exasperated. As Sid disappeared into the bustling airport crowd, Phoebe muttered to herself, "Good luck with that, Sid. You're just a pawn in Malcolm's game, and you don't even see it."
Fed up, Phoebe slammed the door shut, leaving the cacophony of the airport behind, she decided she needed some time away from the chaos, opting to stay in America a while longer.
Meanwhile, Sid, had failed to keep his promise. The toxic allure of heroin once again claimed him, and he overdosed before even reaching home. Vanity, who had been anxiously awaiting Sid's return. She'd received a call that shattered the fragile stability she tried to maintain.
Rushing to be by Sid's side, Vanity found herself in a sterile hospital room, the harsh fluorescent lights casting a cold glow. Sid lay unconscious, the consequences of his choices evident in the pale change to his skin. Vanity, torn between frustration and concern, sat by his bedside, holding his hand as if trying to anchor him to the reality slipping away.
She sat with him for hours until he woke up. They spoke for a while until Vanity ended up falling asleep. and who would come to visit but the spiky red headed punk Johnny.
Sid felt tense around him. A lot of embarrassment washed over Sid, laying in his striped pyjamas, an IV in his hand and his skin pasty with patches of yellow under his eyes.
"Look at ya. Couldn't even make it back to London without OD-ing...you pussy-whipped fool," Johnny remarked, his words cutting through the sterile air. Sid squirmed uncomfortably, grappling with the harsh reality Johnny presented.
Vanity stirred awake at the sound of Johnny's voice. Her eyes stayed closed however she tuned in to their conversation. shifting in her chair, she felt protective of Sid but also aware of the complicated dynamics at play so she remained silent.
Sid, struggling to find words, mumbled, "You don't tell me what to do anymore John" He glanced at Vanity but quickly his eyes darted back to Johnny. "No...Only one person does that doesn't she." Johnny stated. looking over at Vanity's sleeping figure in the chair. He was sickened to look at her. After piecing together what she'd done he felt nothing but resentment towards her. And the problem was that no matter how much hate filled his body he still loved her.
in a way he'd hoped that this new found resentment for Vanity would help fizzle away his feelings for her, after she shattered his heart with a rejected kiss he almost prayed that someone would take away what he felt but it still lingered in the back of his head and deep in his heart and he hated her for it.
Johnny's expression remained stern. "You're letting her mess with your head, Sid. I thought you were gonna be the star, and now you're just another casualty." It may have been harsh but it was what he needed Sid to hear.
"You're just jealous-" Sid stuttered "Jealous because no one can even write down one thing they love about you" Sid's voice cracked and his eyes welled up.
Vanity's heart sank at Sid's words. She knew she had played a part in driving a wedge between them, but witnessing the pain it caused, she couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt. Her eyes remained closed, concealing her inner guilt.
Johnny, though wounded, stood his ground. "Goodbye Sidney." The bitterness in his voice echoed the hurt that lingered beneath the surface He pulled his hand from behind his back, placing a small bouquet of flowers and laying them on the end of Sid's bed. Johnny didn't hesitate for a moment as he turned around and walked away. a single tear falling from his eye. little did he know, Sid was releasing the exact same thing , his gaze lingering on Sid before he turned and walked out of the room. The door closed with a muted click, leaving behind an echoing silence.
Vanity, still pretending to sleep, felt the weight of the fractured relationships settling upon her. Sid, emotionally drained, closed his eyes, and a heavy sigh escaped his lips.
