STANDING ON THE EDGE.
1777, APRIL 06th, WEDNESDAY11:00 pm.
Noche walked out of the door and stood next to Jackalope and Raven. She turned around, but the portal had already vanished.
"Man, that's trippy," she said.
"That was quick," Raven said.
Noche paused. "Yeah... I guess it was... Too quick."
The blonde let out a sigh. She stared at the ground for a moment before raising her hand into view. She clenched it into a fist and then unclenched it and stared at her remaining fingers.
"ArE yOu ReAdY – for the next trial?"
"Yes," she responded without looking up.
"ThEn FoLlOw Me – the next trial is about accepting responsibility for your sins. We can't have them weighing you down."
"Going by the last two, I'm expecting this trail to be a middle ground."
The three of them walked through the forest until they reached a clearing. From there they all walked towards a cliff. Noche approached the edge and stared down – it was quite the drop. Probably a few thousand feet with the ocean far, far away at the bottom. Intense winds whipped Noche's loose hair and clothing back and forth.
She inched forward until the tips of her shoes were hanging over the edge. Basically standing on her heels, Noche raised her head up to the clouds and stared as they flew on by. The blonde whistled.
"Standing on the edge face up. You really are a natural aren't you?" Raven chuckled.
"Did you seriously just quote a pop song?" Noche failed to stifle a laugh. "I mean, yeah I'm pretty brave, but I don't think this should count. I can survive a fall of any height at this point. With my augment I'm immune to falling damage. It's not scary."
"Yeah you never struck me as someone afraid of heights."
"You know what... You're right. I've fallen from extreme heights pretty often, yet it's never bothered me," she paused. "Moving on, Jackalope, how do I begin the trial?"
"DrOwN yOuRsElF – in the water."
Noche turned to him. "I'm sorry?"
"I think he said you have to drown."
"Raven I heard him the first time."
"Water you talking about?"
"Oh-my-fucking-god I'm going to kill you," Noche said in a quiet, exasperated tone. "Wait. Are you telling me you planned to have me die from lightning, air, and water?"
Being a skull, Jackalope always appeared like it was grinning, yet somehow that grin seemed to grow in this instant.
"Seriously? The three main elements I use? My fucking theme," Noche laughed.
"I aDmIt, I cHoSe – those methods for the irony."
"You cheeky bastard," Noche grinned. "I approve."
"Well as fun as this is, I'm not really comfortable watching you die again," Raven said.
"Why do you care so much? It's not like I'm really gone for good?"
"Even if that's the case you shouldn't treat your life so... expendablely. It's unhealthy."
"Meh, it's my body. I'll use it however I want."
