Mr. Lim beamed proudly at the stage amidst the thunderous roar of applause that welcomed the end of his speech. Jimin contributed modestly, knowing full well that he barely deserved even a quarter of the appreciation he's getting. He subtly looked over to where Taehyung and Jungkook were sitting. Like a winner, both were sporting the proudest of their smiles. Cameras' lights flashed all over. Their clicks almost sounded like crickets.
He spotted Jungkook locking eyes with Taehyung. He raised his brow and smirked. Taehyung laughed like a private joke has been passed. Then, they shared a smile. Once again, Jimin admired Taehyung's outlook and frame of mind. It did look like he was about to be drowned. But after baring his heart out that night, it seemed like he was able to resurface from the fear and frustration. Because even in his drunkenness, he knew where to hold on to. His love for Jungkook and their family has always been his buoy.
Half of the time, the media's eyes were on them, checking and proving that they are fine. The attention created by the article has died since the company didn't move an inch. Or so, the public thought. But Taehyung's reputation didn't go back to its pristine and revered state. Even inside the company, people were still suspicious of him. Thankfully, he learned to not give a fuck.
Jimin took out his phone to check the event impact on social media. Since he muted his device, he didn't notice that their office chat was blowing up. He didn't know the context yet but it seemed controversial given the amount and speed of replies in his notification bar. He looked around before opening.
I TOLD YOU. HE'S REALLY CHEATING.
It's the first thing he saw on the screen. His heart immediately raced. Who is it? But he's afraid that he already knew the answer. He scrolled up to the start of the conversation. And stopped on a forwarded video. His hand trembled. He frantically kept his phone and looked around once again. He's uncertain if it's just paranoia but it seemed like some of their employees and the media were already scrutinizing Taehyung.
He hastily got up and walked to where he is.
"Where's Jungkook?"
Taehyung pointed a few feet out front.
"Come with me." He whispered.
"Why?"
"Come with me." He repeated, more casually.
They walked to an empty hallway outside the hall where the event was taking place.
"I haven't seen it but..."
He pulled Taehyung closer and brought out his phone. He scrolled back to the video and heaved a deep breath before pressing it to play. Taehyung huddled his head to watch. Even while the video was still in its first few seconds, he'd already released a shaky outbreath.
He was lying with his eyes closed and only the bottom half of his body veiled by a thin white sheet. A hand appeared to caress his hair and cheek. He ignored it, drowsiness and exhaustion evident on his face.
"You have to go. Your wife is waiting." A woman's voice said.
Taehyung looked at Jimin with wide eyes.
"It's not real." He said, out of breath.
"It's not real? Where is this from?"
"I mean, it was from many years ago. It's not...It wasn't taken while I'm with Jungkook."
"So, who had it? Where is this from?"
"Where did you see it?"
"Our department chat."
"I need to call Mr. Jang. Before others see it." Taehyung was pressing on his phone in panic.
Jimin sighed. They probably already did.
