Jo found herself in the livingroom of the one and only Tree Paine who spent the last hour scolding her about running away but assuring Jo she did the right thing by coming to her.

Jo sat on the couch , looking up at Tree innocently with her best puppy eyes knowing that this usually lead to Tree not being as mad anymore.

"But you really don't understand I was scared and I couldn't stay there , Tree I cried." Jo said and Tree in an instant turnend around on her heels
"You cried? You? Jo Swift? You cried? You never cry." Tree said shocked however a hint of mock in her voice

"Very funny and yes I did." Jo said crossing her arms over her chest

"Come on sunshine , it can't be that bad." Tree said while handing Jo a glass of water.

"Stop calling me that , I still don't get why you call me sunshine , like Taylor with her all happy positive attitude and blonde hair would make sense." Jo pouted and Tree chuckled
"That's why it's your nickname , it's sarcastic."

"You've been calling me that since I was four." Jo remarked , finding it a. It weird Tree had given her a nickname based on how rude she is as a toddler

"You were a grumpy toddler." Tree chuckles while ruffling Jos hair

Jo spent quite a lot time with Tree growing up, because if she was in the VIP tent of some concert of Taylor someone would have to watch her. Usually that was Tree since she knew a thing or two about kids cause well she has a daughter of her own.

Jo would not admit it but she always loved Tree as if she was her own mom. Tree was in some way the closest thing Jo had to a mother. Sure Taylor but that is different , even though a lot of times Taylor will act like Jo's mom at the end of the day she is Jo's older sister and will always act like Jo's older sister rather than mom.

However she never had to say that out loud. Tree could reach the teenager like an open book. She always could. Next to Taylor she might be the person that knows Jo best.

A few minutes later tree came back in , a small smile on her face as she sat down besides Jo
"Okay , I talked to your sister , she said she'll come here tomorrow which she would have done anyways , she didn't sound that mad and she said to tell you that she found your AirPods."

"Oh that's nice , thank you."
Jo said , stiffening a bit at the mention of her older sister. Taylor knew Jo never felt well around her parents however it seemed like Taylor tried to conceal for herself what happened on the past. It's like she's denying it but Jo also knows it isn't her fault because Taylor loves them. Taylor has every right to love them cause from what she knows they were the most wonderful parents to her.

Since Jo was little she knew something was wrong with her. She can't be like everyone else because if she was than her parents would love her. And it must be her since Taylor and Austin never had that issue but still Taylor was the golden child. Taylor was the golden child , Austin the classic middle child , and Jo the black sheep.

I wish I knew what was wrong with me

Jo curled up under the blanket that Tree had given her and she felt the redhead watching her concerned however Tree knew she couldn't get Jo to talk to her in situations like this. Jo has never been what you would call good at talking about her own emotions.

Tree remembers a lot of moments with Jo where she wishes she could have done something. Or looking back would have.
It seemed like when Taylor wasn't there when something was happening Jo was really alone and had no one to turn to. Sometimes Tree but even there it took alot of courage for Jo to actually do that and that is why Tree is so convinced that with whatever is going on Jo is in the right because she drove all the way across town , risking aligning trouble with Taylor and her parents because she needed help. That's enough for Tree to be on Jo's side even if it meant witnessing possibly angry Taylor but in order to protect Jo she definitely would take anger from Taylor.

Jo seemed to be in a whole other world, though she was pretending to look at the tv Tree could easily spot Jo was just deep in thoughts. Tree wanted to know what happened that had caused Jo to come here. Jo told her a story from dinner but Tree has been doubting that this was the whole story since Jo arrived. Some thing just doesn't seem to fit in the picture.

Jo knew she couldn't tell about the conversation she overheard. She just couldn't. She wanted to forget it ever happened however rit once as for all awnsered her life long question.
There is something wrong with me

It made Jo realize that her parents weren't the bad guy. If something with her was so obviously wrong than she could understand her parents and everything was starting to make perfect sense. There was just still a puzzle piece missing.

"You know you can talk to me
sunshine , right?" Tree asked and Jo nodded absent mindedly.

"I don't want to, I still don't understand it all and it's confusing and I just want to forget what I heard."

She saw Tree park up at those words , an eyebrow arched Shaw asked carefully
"What did you hear?"

Judging from Trees expression a reality struck her. Tree knew. Of course she knew she's Tree. But she knew.

"What do you know?" Jo sassed back , but her voice making it clear she wanted and needed awnsers that it seemed like Tree had.

"What do you know Jo?"
Tree asked , her voice icy and she was practically reading Jo's mind by how hard she was staring at Jo.
