"Dear!" I called him that Sunday. "Hmm?" He ran to the room, his eyes widening as he slowly waddled towards the board. "So... V - E + F = 2," I said as I clapped my hands, releasing a burst of chalk powder in the air. "H-How...?" He asked as he approached me with tears in his eyes. "I attended tuitions," I admitted as I looked down with a hint of guilt. He placed his hands on my shoulders. "Look at me," He softly grabbed my chin and lifted it to his eyes. "Let us run away from this Wasteland." He hugged me.
Why are you so kind to me now?" I pushed him away. "It was a long time ago," He sighed. "I wanted to make you study. But your mother took it as an opportunity to force marriage upon your shoulders. I married you when I turned 18 and got this job. She told me you were good for nothing and that studies were a waste of time for everyone around you. So I challenged her that I would make you study. But she added a condition that I must be abusive towards you or she would kill us all," He explained.
How would she come to know?" I tilted my head. "Our maid, Jayde, is the spy that tells your mother my every move," He whispered. "But I love our kids and you, with all my heart," He caressed my cheek. "Pack your bags and get our kids. We're leaving for the Hursea Islands for a better future," He kissed my forehead.
On our way to the Hursea Islands, he suddenly looked at me and said "I regret behaving like that to you. Your tea is always the best," We both chuckled happily as our kids behind us slept whilst hugging."
I opened my eyes, a wholesome smile spreading across my lips. What a sad story with a wholesome twist. "May I ask what went through your mind, Miss Reiko?" Mrs Solstice walked up to my desk. "N-Nothing. It's just that you look a lot like our English teacher..." I almost whispered the last line. "Oh really? Who's your English teacher?" She asked, intrigued. "Mrs Denvers," I said. "Oh... Might you know her first name?" She leaned closer. "I think her name is Serenne..." I squinted my eyes as I was unsure.
"Serenne..?" She muttered under her breath as the bell rang. Just then our English teacher trotted into the class. Our Math teacher turned around and called out her name. "H-How did you come to know of my name, Miss?" She asked Mrs Solstice, who advanced closer to her. "It's me...Valentinne." She said as she placed her hands on Mrs Denvers' shoulders. "No..." "Yes." She said as she hugged Mrs Denvers. Our whole class applauded as both the teachers broke down into tears as they continued their tight embrace. "Sister..!"
I rest on the bed looking at the ceiling as my mind replayed the reunion. "So 4 month holidays...And you're wasting precious time by staring at the mossy ceiling," Akira said as he sat on my bed. "You good?" He asked as he placed his palm on my forehead. "I'm fine..." I clicked my tongue. "Why are we given a 4-month holiday again? I wasn't listening..." "It's to 'pay respect to the lives lost during World War IV'," Asa walked in as he made fun of our Homeroom Teacher. "C'mon guys, she's a sweet lady..!" Calista moaned.
Somebody knocked on the door just then as I stood up to open it. "I got permission from the principal so we can share the room!" Lazuli squealed as Atlas face-palmed himself. "Does your room have room for us to squeeze in?" He groaned. "There is some space left..!" I nodded as I took in their luggage. "Thankfully the bunk beds are quite big, so we could easily stuff your things in!" Asa shouted from inside. "Yes!" Lazuli spun and fell on the bed. It took us 4 hours to help them unpack and settle down. "It's just 10...?"
Atlas and Akira were fast asleep, while Asa, Lazuli, Calista and I were watching a scary movie. "AHHGH!!" Asa screamed as he spilt the popcorn on the floor. "Asa!" I groaned. "Keep it down on the floor and eat, you dumbass..!" I muttered as I swiftly picked up the spillage and threw it in the dustbin.
By 2 AM, Everyone had woken up, since Lazuli couldn't wait till morning to play truth or dare. "Okay," She spun the pencil in the centre, which landed on Akira and herself. "Akira, Truth or Dare?" "I choose...Dare."
"Do 10 push-ups," She giggled deviously. Akira jumped down the bed and impressed us all by doing 10 push-ups. The next two were Asa and Atlas and as expected, Asa chose dare. "How about... you run down the corridor, knock on someone else's door and run back here?" Atlas chuckled devilishly. "You and your sister don't need DNA tests to know if you are both related..." He muttered as he walked to the door. We all waited at the entrance to see Asa, who sprinted through the corridor, knocked on the door 4 times and dashed back to the room.
We bawled, laughing as Asa fell on the floor, panting. Atlas closed the door and rested his back on it as he cried from laughter. "NOW WHO WAS THAT?!" We heard a faint scream, which made us laugh even more. We calmed down after a while and slowly sat in the same positions. Akira spun the pencil, which landed on Lazuli and me. I gulped audibly. "I choose truth," I said decisively, her smirk increasing. "Reveal a secret of yours that you swore never to tell anyone except your close relatives and loved ones."
