I step into the apartment, an unusually cold air fills the room covered in darkness. I try in vain to turn the lights on.
I exit my apartment and as I'm about to knock on the door of my neighbor to look for an answer, I stop myself since it's past midnight and I don't want to risk waking them up.
The light in the hallway isn't working and the elevator is blocked as well. When I checked the apartment Wonwoo wasn't there, not even in his room, so I decide to go down the stairs, he might be just outside or somewhere else.
Hearing my phone being left unanswered a thousand times does not reassure me, I sit in the front of the building waiting. I call his father, his brother, and Hoshi, but no one can tell me where he is. I'm probably just overreacting because he's a grown man and he knows how to take care of himself but I can't help but worry. What if he got lost somewhere on his own, or went out to have fun with someone? But Wonwoo is not the type to simply go out with strangers, after all, I don't know him as well as I used to, he might have a secret girlfriend for all I know.
I don't want to think about the possibility of him being with someone else at the moment, I might go crazy if I think he's spending the night outside while I'm here waiting for him. As I'm torturing myself the lights inside the building finally turn on. I look at my phone, and it's past 1 a.m., it was fucking time, but I still have no news from my roommate or from anyone else, and I think about going back to the apartment.
Just as I'm about to leave I see a black figure running towards me, or towards the entrance of the building where I'm standing and I stop in my tracks waiting for him to get closer.
"Wonu?" I whisper to myself as he approaches, wearing a black hoodie with his hood on and black pants. Thankfully I recognized him or I would be the one running, inside of the building though.
"M-mingyu?" He takes the hood off and looks at me confused and surprised, still panting a little.
"What are you doing in the middle of the night?" I question him. "And since when do you go running?" I point at his attire, my mind spinning trying to come up with a reason.
"I-" He simply says. I get closer to him, getting off the steps in front of the entrance, and I wipe some of the sweat that has gathered on his face, finding it cold, very cold.
"What's wrong Wonu?"
"I didn't know what else to do" I look at the building wondering when the blackout started and since when has he been running, because it's for sure been at least one hour.
"What do you mean?" I ask him but he doesn't answer and he starts to stretch, completely ignoring me. I feel a couple of droplets fall on my face and look up as they increase, in a matter of seconds I can already feel my hair start to get wet but Wonwoo is still stretching in front of me, unbothered by it.
"Let's go before you catch a cold" I tell him and he looks up at me nodding. Still something doesn't feel right, the look in his eyes...
"Wonu" I stop him before he has the chance to enter the building, we are no longer under the rain but I can feel the cold seep into my bones as I look at his lifeless posture. "Tell me"
"Min" He sighs tiredly as his back faces me. I take a couple of steps until I come to stand in front of him, he doesn't raise his eyes nor does he say anything, he just keeps looking down at the floor.
"Wonu" I tilt his chin up but he keeps his eyes lowered. "Look at me"
His fox-like eyes seem to have become darker than before, they wear a thick layer of water in them barely staying inside and his lashes are completely wet making them look heavier.
