Melanie Hale was the daughter of Peter Hale and cousin of Derek Hale and the niece to Talia Hale.

After the fire had burned their family alive Derek ended up having to be one who could take care of Melanie while Peter was still in a coma. After the fire the two left Beacon Hills never looking back.

Then years later the two had returned to Beacon Hills after the death of Laura Hale Derek's older sister and Melanie's cousin as a way to lure them both back home.

"I'm not going to that prison" Melanie told Derek. "It's not a prison it's a school" Derek said. "Same thing" Melanie said.

"Melanie there's a new beta out there he was bitten by the alpha" Derek said.

"And not my problem I didn't even want to come back to Beacon hills I'm not going to that prison no" Melanie said.

"Well, your dad is still in a coma therefore I'm your guardian till further notice so you're going" Derek said and left. Melanie groaned falling onto her bed.

Stiles, Scott, and Allison were in English class when the principal had walked in with Melanie.

Everyone had looked at her including Scott and Stiles recognizing her from somewhere.

"I'm sorry to interrupt you again but it appears we have another new student" the vice principal said.

"Everyone this is Melanie Hale please do make her feel welcome" the vice principal said and left. "Hale" Scott asked Stiles.

"She's Derek's cousin he looks after her" Stiles said.

"Melanie lovely to meet you always a pleasure to have a new student two in fact please have a seat and we'll begin" the teacher had said, and Melanie had gone and sat down. 

She saw Stiles and it felt like they were the only two in the room. Melanie snapped out of it and focused on the front

Melanie was at her locker when Lydia and Allison came up. "Your Melanie right your new" Lydia asked. "Yeah, you could say that" Melanie said.

"I'm Lydia and this is Allison she's also new" Lydia said. "Yeah hello" Melanie said. "We're getting ready to watch the lacrosse team you wanna join" Lydia asked.

"I don't know sports aren't really my thing" Melanie said and Lydia started dragging her. "I don't like being dragged" Melanie said.

Melanie sat with Lydia and Allison in the bleachers while they watched the lacrosse team practice.

Scott was in goal and Melanie had smelt a werewolf and once she looked at Scott, she automatically knew Scott was the new beta.
