For the remainder of One Direction’s visit, I tried to make as little contact with the band as possible. I turned away whenever Harry or Zayn would look at me in the eyes, because as much as I didn’t want it to happen, the boys kept doing it and I was already getting distressed with the attention. I remember just praying that they would leave soon, so I would never have to face that awkwardness again. Of course, little did I know then that, that would never happen.

Once we had joined Whitney, Carey and Cher again the questions just wouldn’t stop coming.

“How come you two took so long up there?” Cher asked bitterly even though she tried her best to disguise it.

“I could see from here how Zayn kept looking at you.” Whitney teased. “What did he say? And spill all details.”

“What did they smell like?” Carey pestered Monroe with curious questions. “What did they sound like up close? Were they good with their hands?”

But before Monroe could reply to all questions excitedly, the three girls’ turns had arrived and had to go up on stage, thankfully leaving us behind.

As I stood there, I looked around at the crowd of girls and noticed how the girls that had already met the boys kept gushing about their experience with each other or to the girls that were still waiting for their turn to come up; and how the girls that were still in the queue were awed by everything they were saying. I silently chuckled to myself amazed that a person could cause such effect on people. I wondered if there was any celebrity out there that could cause me to fangirl, but I simply couldn’t find any. It was a ridiculous thought; they were just human beings like us, like me.

I then, turned to look at Monroe, who was smiling at a thought and had a dreamy look on her face. I remembered then that Niall had whispered something in her ear that had completely taken me aback and immediately asked her what he had said.

“Nothing!” She lied even though a pink flush was beginning to taint her cheeks. A giggle then escaped her lips and she couldn’t help but share the secret. “He said that I was one of the most committed fans, and that I was his favourite!”

“Wow, Monroe!” I said surprised. I really couldn’t believe Niall had said that to her; frankly I thought he wanted no more than to be rid of her. Perhaps her over-the-top excitement had won him over at the end. “I told you he would love you,” was all I could say.

“You did.” She laughed and tried covering her burning cheeks. “I also told you that you were going to catch the boys’ attention, and I was right! I can’t get over the way Zayn was looking at you, Dion. That boy has a crush written all over him.”

My eyes widened at the words that were coming out of her mouth, “Stop it!” I exclaimed. “You can’t say stuff like that, Monroe.”

“But it’s true!” She continued.

“No, it’s not. Now stop.” I warned her finally, and she remained quiet. She shook her head at me and sighed quite frustrated, but I simply ignored all her remarks.

Monroe and I remained quiet until Whitney, Carey and Cher came to join us, and even then Monroe was doing all the talking. It felt like an eternity before everyone had met the boys and as soon as the last person stepped down from the last step, I felt nothing but relief.

Sadly, my minute of relief was cut short when the girl with the unattractive bow on her head began to shout, “Do a song!” several times. The hall then picked up the message and began repeating it as well, and Monroe began shaking again knowing that the boys were unlikely to refuse the offer.

Louis chuckled loudly and looked around at the boys, before making them lean in to discuss something. Liam was the first to stand up from his chair, pulling the mike with him and saying: “We really couldn’t go without singing a song, could we?”
