off the windshield of the Camaro, Sally having put on the windshield wipers on a high setting. Cam and Percy kept looking at Grover everytime lightning flashed, thinking they were going crazy. But the smell of zoo animals told them it was definitely real.

"So you and my mom... know each other?" Was all Percy could think to ask.

"Not exactly," Grover replied. "I mean, we've never met in person. But she knew I was watching you. And I knew your Aunt Jennie when she was about your age." Grover turned to Cam as he spoke.

"Grover, my Aunt is thirty-five. You would have to be in your late twenties to have known her at our age," Cam told him with a concerned look.

"I am. I was five when I met her, but I age half as fast as humans," Grover told her.

"Of course you do. Why wouldn't you?" Cam muttered to herself sarcastically.

"Uhm, what are you exactly?" Percy asked, turning to Grover from the front seat.

"That doesn't matter right now," Grover answered.

"It doesn't matter? From the waist down, one of my best friends is a donkey-"

"Blaa-ha-ha!" Grover let out in a sharp voice. Cam turned to him so fast she almost whacked Percy in the face with her hair.

"Oh, my god! What the hell was that?" She yelled.

"I'm a goat!"

"What?" Percy asked.

"I'm a goat from the waist down!"

"You just said it didn't matter," Percy and Cam replied in unison.

"Blaa-ha-ha! There are satyrs who would trample you underhoof for such an insult!" Grover yelled, his face contorting into a look of anger.

"Whoa. Wait. Satyrs? You mean like... Mr. Brunner's myths?" Percy asked, but Cam could barely hear him over the pounding rain.

"Were those ladies at the fruit stand a myth, Percy? Was Mrs. Dodds a myth?"

"I knew we weren't crazy! And you're a terrible liar, there is a Mrs. Dodds. Well, there was until Percy stabbed her with a pen," Cam recalled.

"Yeah, a pen that turned into a sword," Percy added, turning back to Grover. "But why didn't you say anything?"

"The less you two knew, the fewer monsters you'd attract. It was already hard enough with both of you being there," Grover said, as if it had been obvious. "We put Mist over the human's eyes. We hoped you'd think the Kindly One was a hallucination. But it was no good. You guys started to realize who you are."
