February 2021

'Little Britaly' has been open for 2 months now, and it still feels like I'm floating on cloud nine in pastry heaven. You get me, pastry heaven because of our bakery? Whatever.

My best friend and business partner Liana is just cashing up the latest customer before she turns to face me with a big smile, "Can you believe we've been open for two months?" she asks.

I shake my head before answering, "It still feels like a dream."

What was once just a crazy idea whilst sitting in our room with a bottle of wine, became reality two months ago. We stand proudly together behind the counter of our very own bakery. Who would have thought that two young women would manage to open their first business in the principality of Monaco? Certainly not me.

"Sometimes I'm afraid that I dreamed all of it and when I wake up in the morning it'll all be gone." she admits.

I'm about to answer her when another customer comes in that she serves. Everything that has led to this day is a real miracle. The location we have is amazing. The best location in Monaco for sure and for a price that no one in their right mind could have refused.

Sighing happily, I take care of the coffee orders that Liana has just taken.

After the customers leave, we wipe over the counter to keep everything clean meaning we won't need to clean much more before we close in about an hour.

I'm wringing out the cleaning cloth when I see in of the corner of my eye how Liana put her phone back in her pocket with an annoyed look on her face, "Has Davide contacted you again?"

Liana and Davide were a couple for 6 years before the idiot decided to cheat on her while she was away at pastry school. And since then, she is no longer the same Liana I met on the first day of pastry school. I have recently decided to do everything in my power to find her a man who loves and appreciates her.

"He's asked again if we can talk. But I don't really want to," She turns back towards the counter with a distorted face.

"Maybe our bakery will attract some hot millionaires." I joke, hoping to lighten the mood a bit.

"Rae, I'm personally sick of men. But hopefully some hot millionaire will come through the door for you."

I snort in laughter, and as I'm about to say something back the door opens and a young man enters the bakery. Liana winks at me to say 'as if I knew'. Shaking my head at her, I turn to our latest guest.

"Hi, how can I help you?" I ask him with a big smile.

The young man looks at me, visibly startled. He was just looking around casually and now he's looking at me with wide eyes, like I just caught him off guard. I have to hold back a laugh.

"Urm. I'd like a sausage roll please."

I nod and type his order into the register, "Can I get you something to drink as well?"

"No thanks," a shy smile plays on his lips.

I place his order in a box and then push it across the counter.

"That'll be 3 euros please," I smile at him and whilst he rummages through his wallet, I take the time to look at him more closely. I would guess he is no older than me. His brown curls stick out in all directions and when his gaze lifts, I am met with the most beautiful greeny-blue eyes I have ever seen.

"Here." He pushes the cash over the counter and then lifts the box, "and thank you for this."

"Very welcome! Have a nice day."

Nodding gratefully, he turns around and when he is almost at the door, he turns to me again, "Would you mind telling me your name? You're from England too, right?"

I look at him perplexed.

A bit embarrassed, he looks down at the floor and his hand scratches at the back of his neck, "I...sorry, ignore me please...It's none of my business to ask, sorry."

He is just about to leave when I answer him back, "I'm Rae... erm actually Raegan but everyone calls me Rae and yes, I'm from Surrey."

Just another shy nod from him.

"Erm and what's your name?" Somehow this whole interaction feels just super weird.

"Lando." he blurts out. He quickly clears his throat and repeats himself, "My name is Lando and I'm from Bristol."

I have to suppress a smile at the way he's scratching the back of his head again. "Hi Lando from Bristol," at this moment Liana comes out of the kitchen again and looks back and forth between me and Lando, "And Lando from Bristol, this is my best friend, Liana from Alessandria."

A slight smile forms on his lips, "have a nice evening." And with that he disappears, he actually leaves the bakery for real this time.

"He so fancied you, Rae! The look he was giving you!" she grins widely at me.

I laugh and shake my head, "he's way too shy."

"So what? He looks damn good."

That's where she's right, but if we're being honest, I'll probably never see him again anyway. He was probably just a tourist.

Lando POV

What the hell was that? How can one make such a clown of himself like I just did?

I want to slap my hand over my head to knock some sense into myself. I haven't even lived in Monaco for 2 weeks and I already have a place where I can no longer show up.

When I entered 'Little Britaly' I actually just wanted to buy something to eat, but I was very quickly captivated by the pretty girl behind the counter. And then I embarrassed myself, like I have never done before.

I should have just left after paying. Groaning, I run my free hand through my hair.

One thing is definitely clear, Raegan is one of the prettiest girls I've ever seen and if the sausage roll tastes as good as it looks, I'll definitely have an excuse to pay the little bakery another visit.
