MARCH 2021
"Hi Lando from Bristol." I greet our newest regular customer as he enters the bakery. Since the first time he came in, he has been here almost every day to order a sausage roll. Our conversations usually consist of nothing more than 'hello' 'sausage roll?' and a nod from his side and a quick 'goodbye' even though I always get the feeling there is more he wants to say.
A sheepish smile spreads across his lips. "Hi Raegan from Surrey."
I have to chuckle at him. It's quiet between us for a moment and I use the time to inconspicuously look him up and down. He's wearing a pair of gray sweatpants and a black hoodie. His hair is sticking up in all directions as usual, but that doesn't make him any less attractive in my eyes. I can't deny that I've kind of grown fond of him, Liana likes to rub that in my face with pleasure. Yesterday she actually started singing 'Raegan and Lando sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby delivered in a carriage.' can you believe her?
Raegan. What are you thinking?
I mean I can't deny that he is incredibly attractive and he is exactly my type but still. That's also what Liana has been telling me for the last 5 days. I quote 'Rae he is so your type, you should ask him out on a date' - coming from Miss 'I am never going to date again'.
I am way too shy to ask him out on a date. I might be an outgoing person on the outside, but asking a man out on a date is definitely out of my comfort zone.
"Can I get you another sausage roll? You timed it perfectly, Liana just took a fresh load out of the oven and..." Oh god, now I'm starting to babble.
"Um, actually I'm here for something else today." He murmurs, scratching the back of his head again. I've noticed he always does this when he's a little uncomfortable.
"We also have cannoli's. Liana makes the best ever. You have to try them. You will have a foodgasm." I just ramble on.
It's only when a wide grin spreads across Lando's lips that I realise what I've just said. Please, Satan open hell for me and swallow me into the ground forever.
"As much as I would like to try them now, I'm on a strict 'no sausage roll and any other delicious things' ban from my trainer."
"What do you mean a ban from your trainer? I've been to the gym a few times before and I never got a food ban from any of these trainers."
Lando looks at me confused.
"Wait what is your job that you're not allowed to eat sausage rolls anymore? If someone told me I can't eat sausage rolls anymore I would quit." Raegan you should really shut up now.
Whilst my face turns redder and redder with each sentence I ramble, Lando's grin just grows wider and wider.
"I am a driver." he answers.
Hmm, weird. Why would an Uber driver need a trainer? Well, that's none of my business.
"Okay, so Mr. 'I can't eat sausage rolls anymore', what can I do for you then?" I joke.
Another uncomfortable scratch at the back of his head.
"Um... do you have your phone with you?"
I look at him confused. But I nod quickly and as I pull my phone out of my pocket, I see Lando typing away on his phone out of the corner of my eye.
I proudly hold my phone in front of his eyes and grin, "Here!"
Lando raises his gaze and looks me in the eyes. "Do you have AirDrop on?"
