JULY 2023

'Welcome to the Formula 1 Aramco British Grand Prix'

Finish recording the video I was taking on my phone and put it back into my purse. My eyes roam over to Lando tapping his fingers nervously on the steering wheel.

It's race day and Lando will start P2, at his HOME grand prix!

To say he is nervous is an understatement. He couldn't sleep last night, it got so late that I actually went to the shop and got him some rescue remedy. Liana would be proud that I actually remembered her holy grail. That woman the little bottle in her purse with her everywhere. Maybe I should start doing that as well, just in case Lando has another midnight crisis because of his racing. After a few drops, he finally fell asleep, albeit so deep that we almost missed the alarm this morning.

Reaching for his hand, I pull it towards my lips placing a soft kiss into his palm, "You will do amazing today babe," I whisper against his hand.

"I am so fucking nervous, I might throw up," he admits. "I am almost on my 100th race and the nerves this time are worse than my first."

"If it helps, maybe you should throw up," The subtle joke doesn't work, he immediately glares at me so I throw my hands up in defense, "Okay, not funny. I get it."

Still, I beam him a big smile making the corner of his mouth rise slightly. Good enough for now, I tell myself.

A few minutes later, Lando parks his McLaren at his assigned spot. As we get out of the car we are greeted by Max and Kelly. Kelly has become one of my closest friends over the past two years here in the F1 circus.

"Hey you two," she smiles bright while pulling me into a side hug.

"Lando are you nervous?" asks Max, if looks could kill, Max would not be racing today. He mouths a 'what?' at me upon the look I give him. Rolling my eyes, I shake my head.

"No, not at all," I'm trying my hardest not to laugh. Lando has always been a bad liar, you would have to be really blind (and probably deaf as well) if you can't understand that he is lying straight to Max's face. Max seems to understand because he drops the topic - for now at least.

We scan our passes and while Kelly and I are in conversation, Max talks to Lando about the new video game he recently started playing. The boys get stopped for pictures here and there, so we don't bother to wait for them every two meters as we make our way through the paddock.

"Raegan, Kelly, can we take a picture with you?" two young girls approach us, smiling wide. They are dressed in McLaren and Red Bull merch. Kelly and I nod and smile for a picture. "We went to Monaco a few weeks ago and tried so much stuff at your bakery. Even my dad was impressed and he normally doesn't trust sausage rolls outside of the UK." One of the girls tells me excitedly that her dad only comments with a little shake of his head which makes me laugh.

"Glad you enjoyed them. I hope you two have a wonderful weekend." I laugh.

The girls say their goodbyes before making their way towards our boyfriends.

"I don't think I will ever get used to people asking me for a picture." I say to Kelly just as we stop in front of the Red Bull hospitality.

"It's kind of weird, isn't it?"

I nod in agreement. The first time I got asked for a picture, I was so nervous that I would look bad in the picture that the picture actually turned out horrendous because my smile was so forced I looked like someone electro shocked me before. When I saw the picture online I had a mental breakdown for two hours and then I forced Lando to teach me how to 'quickly pose for fan pictures and look good' until he told me to get a grip and relax a little.
