Hugo and I are in the car driving to the spectrum where the Guildford Flames are competing in the play-offs for this season. Hugo had asked me when I got home whether I wanted to go with him, it would have been nice to have more notice - but at least he asked I guess.
He offered to drive as well, so I could have a glass of wine at the rink, which was a thoughtful gesture.
"Thanks for driving babe," I turn round and smile at him nicely. Things seem to be okay with us now, which I am relieved about.
"It's alright," he looks over and gives me a smile, then puts his hand on my knee and gives it a squeeze, a warm feeling spreads through me as he does, we are so back.
"Do you enjoy coming here, knowing that you aren't playing anymore?" I ask, referring to his injury that prevents him from playing in the team any longer.
"I don't mind, it's nice to see the team and it's nice to see your brother as well,"
"Well, thank you for coming with me, I really do appreciate it," I say, as we park in the carpark.
As Hugo promised, when we arrived we went into the players hospitality lounge and he got me a glass of white wine. It's not the best wine I've ever had in my life, but it's better than no wine.
I laugh to myself when I think about what Liana would say about this wine, being from Italy she is very passionate about a good bottle of wine, I would always make her choose one when we would go out for dinner.
"Little Rae of Sunshine!" booms a voice from behind us in the lounge, I turn around and see Ben with a huge grin on his face and open arms bounding towards us, Kate in tow just behind him, she must of had practice before the rink shut for the game.
My smile grows even wider and I open my arms, only to be picked up and swung around. You would not even think that Ben and I are related, he is huge, I mean he has to be to be an ice hockey player. But he is over 6 foot tall, and I'm about 5 foot 3 inches.
"Hugo," Ben greets Hugo with a nod and a handshake, Hugo isn't the type of person to show affection to his friends so a handshake is something, Hugo gives a nod back. "Are you missing playing? We miss you here."
"Yeah, it's a shame. Hopefully I'm back to full fitness soon so I can rejoin a team, might not be Flames level anymore but it'll be good to get on a rink somehow."
They spend a few minutes catching up over today's game, the strategy, who is playing and a bit more. Kate and I say hello and catch up on most of the past few days, there are a couple of details I've chosen to emit based on our audience.
Hugo's phone starts to ring and he pulls it out of his pocket, I glance over as an automatic reaction but see a name on the phone I don't recognise - 'Emily'. My stomach sinks a bit, we know each others friends, we have the same friends and there isn't someone we know named Emily.
I give him confused look, and ask "who's that?"
He looks at us all, before saying, "sorry, if you'll excuse me, it's a work call."
Kate looks at me with a strange look on her face, "work again, hmm?"
I just roll my eyes.
Ben shortly gets called away to join the team for their warm up on the ice. Kate and I walk together into the arena and take our seats, ready for the first period to start. Hugo still hasn't returned from his phone call.
"So Hugo is busy with work at the moment?" she asks as we sit down.
"Yeah, there's a big deal or something he's working on at the moment, he has to be away a lot for it."
