MIKHAIL's POV

I watched Lamia walk upstairs as my half-brother looked at me, his lips set in a hard line. He pushed the plate away from him, giving space for his elbows.

"That should buy us some time." Aleks muttered, his voice a low murmur. "She's a precious one, isn't she?"

"I know," I replied, taking a sip of my coffee as and putting it down on the mahogany table. "What did you have to say that Lamia shouldn't hear?"

"Lucius has been quiet, Mikhail." Aleks replied a few moments later, his darkened gold eyes meeting my silver ones. "And we both KNOW what happens after."

"Me being the bad guy, again."

"Not only that, but I think that we need to watch over her family." My brother replied, his expression grim. "First, he'll take everything away from her, blame you, and the cycle from a hundred years ago shall repeat itself once more."

I let out a breath, rolling my eyes in the process.

"I remember, frankly, I PERFECTLY remember how he bewitched Amali." Aleks said nothing, so I continued. "But Lamia and Amali are different people who share the same soul; I would never mistake Lamia as someone as a person so frail and meek."

A laugh escaped my lips as I looked at the chair beside me; standing up, I grabbed our plates and began walking towards the kitchen sink. My brother was silent.

"You know, Aleks," I began, spraying water on the the first plate. "I would have actually enjoyed this setting if I were a human, if there wasn't a crazy Nephilim trying to kill me."

My brother laughed, looking at the library just outside the kitchen.

"I agree, but this is the life given to us." He replied in a sentimental tone. "The contracts I made to help fulfil countless human desires, only ended up with me taking their soul in the end."

I nodded my head, as I began washing the other dishes. My thoughts wandering about as I think of what I can do to help Lamia without having something backfire and take her away from me.

Then an idea flashed in my head, two, in fact:

What if I make her a demoness?

But that would mean giving up her soul for eternal damnation in the underworld, and I don't want that future for her-- for us.

How about I give up my immortality?

That's also a good idea, but who will save her if the circumstances arise?
