Everest's POV

We all stared down at Mr. Cillgod with a burning hate in our eyes. Not that he could see it.

"This is normally where we would say 'we can do this the hard way or the easy way.' However, since you're evil, and possibly conspiring with Lacy, and we are unbelievably desperate, we're going to do this the hard way," I started out bluntly, "Access the portal."

He shook his head. Calum slapped him.

"Open the portal. Or tell us what dimension the portal is to," Tessa commanded.

Mr. Cillgod smiled. I waited about 7 seconds so he thought we would forget. Then as I felt my fingernails extend into claws, I scratched him.

"Ah, you must be pretty familiar with these. Do you remember me clawing your eyes out of their sockets? Of course you do, how could you forget?" I said in a voice that sounded like I was smiling, but in reality, my mouth was absolutely straight. There was no humor in this situation.

"Why did the Commander want me dead?" Calum asked. Tessa and I stared at him. The thought had never crossed either of our minds.

The whole reason this started was because Luna was assigned by the Commander to kill Calum. Clearly, Calum wasn't evil, but that's what we thought about Lacy.

Maybe the Commander was evil, which comes back to Calum's question. Why would she want him dead?

I inched closer to Tessa, realizing she was the only one that I could trust. Except, her story was a bit suspicious too. She happened to come to our rescue right when we needed it, and she had known where Mr. Cillgod was.

Well shit, when did I start missing Caspar, who hates my werewolf guts, so much?

"Open the fucking portal," I said, frustrated.

"Face it. You can torture me all you want, but your torture won't compare to the hell that Lacy is giving your friends," Mr. Cillgod replied, completely calm. This only inspired me to hurt him more.

I slowly took off his sunglasses, delighted with the fact that he couldn't see what I was doing, and he wouldn't know what would come next. I stared at the empty sockets.

They space around it was red, but where the eyes used to be was endless mesmerizing blackness. I wasn't sure if his was normally how people who had their eyes torn out of their sockets would look, or if it had to do with the fact that he was an evil magician.

I didn't put the sunglasses back on because I couldn't give him the satisfaction. I saw Calum hunch over in the corner of my eyes, probably to be sick.

I carefully unwrapped the bandage that was tied around his forehead. Luckily Calum wasn't looking, or he might've been traumatized for life.

Underneath that bandage was a hole in his forehead. He had drilled a fucking hole in his forehead. A smile had grown on his face, knowing what we were seeing.

I didn't know much about trepanation, but it was clear that Mr. Cillgod knew plenty about it. "Calum, don't look," I called out, and he didn't.

"Just because you drilled a hole in your head doesn't mean you have extra sensory perception," Tessa stated.

"It was to make up for the vision I lost because of your werewolf," he replied. "If you're so sure it won't work, then come a little closer."

All at once, he muttered something, and the chains around him instantly wrapped Tessa and Calum together. He reached out for me and pulled me towards him with unbelievable strength.

For some reason, I couldn't look away or close my eyes. Instead I stared into his forehead and saw the closest thing on Earth to a black hole.

So basically he drilled a hole into his forehead. That's trepanation.
