Biting my lip nervously, I tried to unlock the front door without making any noise. My heels were in my hand as I tiptoed inside, not bothering to turn the lights on. I didn't need anyone to know I was home this early. It was better for them to assume that I was at Aiden's rather than coming for dinner with smudged lipstick and ass out.

For the past few days, I've been sneaking in and out of the house without being caught, and I planned for tonight to end the same way. Most of the time, I was out at ten, once Liam and my father took their sleep pills, and then I was back at five to get ready and leave for school at seven. Harry kept me entertained, that's for sure.

As I passed in front of the living room archway, I couldn't help but slow down in my steps, as I heard a familiar voice.

"Is she with you?" Liam's assertive voice rang in my ears, catching my curiosity.

I moved closer to the archway. My brother was sitting on an armchair with a hand against his forehead. Liam's phone was on the coffee table, put on speaker.

"Yeah, Melanie's taking a shower. I'll tell her you called when she's out," Aiden said, making me raise my brows.

She was still covering my back. Why? Why would she do that after seeing me kiss her boyfriend? Perhaps she didn't see me. Maybe she wasn't even by the door when I turned to look. It could've been my brain, again - my biggest enemy. I was so nervous about making out in public with him because she could've seen me that my brain could've taken advantage of that. She could've been a hallucination.

Liam leaned forward, grabbing his glass of whiskey from the door, "Or something better - why don't you advise her next time when she'll be late to give me a quick call or something, hm?"

I rolled my eyes. I wasn't a child anymore, and I didn't have to call my big brother when I would be late. For Heaven's sake, my father didn't care where I was, so who was Liam to do it?

"Liam, you need to chill down," Aiden muttered, "Melanie is not a little girl anymore, and she doesn't need to tell you where she's at all the time!"

"Of course, she doesn't have to. But it'll be nice if she tells the people that care for her what the fuck she's up to," he set his jaw with a smile before taking a sip from his drink.

Aiden cleared her throat, "M'kay, I'll let her know."

The call ended before he could say anything else. I swallowed my laugh and pulled my phone out when it buzzed. It was Aiden. However, my phone wasn't the only thing that buzzed. When I looked up, I noticed Liam was coming my way to answer the door.

"Shit," I muttered, running a hand through my hair. What was I supposed to do now? As my heartbeat fastened, I looked around for a place to hide. But before I could do something just a little stupid, I went to answer the door - the worst idea.
