I pushed Liam's wheelchair to his bed. Because he couldn't walk. Amanda helped as we put him on the mattress because Liam couldn't move his legs. He had to have a Medic beside him at all times because the lower part of his body was paralyzed.

My brother, Liam O'Coyle, was disabled.

I wiped my eyes, looking to the side so he wouldn't see how much this affected me. I didn't want him to think that just because he couldn't walk, he was less than anyone else. He was still my brother. He was still Liam, no matter what.

However, he didn't speak. He didn't even look at me. The only thing he did was stare at the walls as if they were the ones that could understand him.

The Medic stepped back once he was done with the IV. Supposedly, there was a medicine that would relax Liam's muscles and make it easier for him to fall asleep. However, he didn't seem relaxed at all. In fact, I felt like my Hemp could make him relax faster than— God, Melanie, take your head out of the gutter.

"Mr. Liam, would you like me to make you anything special for dinner tonight?" Amanda asked with a sweet smile.

Liam didn't say anything, instead, the Medic spoke to her. "He can't have anything at the moment. After he wakes up from his nap, he can have something light," he murmured, looking down at the file in his hand, "I'll help you out with the menu."

Amanda nodded, a smile falling from her lips. I cleared my throat and looked up, "Uh, can I have a second with my brother?" I asked.

"It's not a good idea. He's very tired," the Medic said, closing the file in his hand, "The medications he's on make him very tired."

Aren't meds supposed to do the opposite? Or maybe that's just about the ones that are off the counter.

"Well, you can help Amanda with the menu and that way he would have room to breathe and I would take just three seconds from his time," I ignored his previous statement, offering, no, ordering him to get the fuck out of the room. Politely, of course.

The Medic didn't seem too sure but when Liam gestured at him to leave, he did it. Once we were left alone, I tugged my hair behind my ear, looking around as the room fell into silence. How was I supposed to start this conversation?

Taking in a deep breath, I walked beside his bed and sat on the nightstand. I reached to take his hand in mine but he moved it over his stomach so I would be able to do it.

"How did this happen?" I asked, swallowing the lump in my throat.

He was silent at first but then he parted his lips, yet nothing left them. I didn't rush him though. And after a few seconds, he spoke.
