"So is there a garden center near where you live?" Mila asked curiously.
"Um.." He frowned, thinking that through. "There's a small place in town. There's a larger place in the city nearby I think."
"How far away is that?"
"Maybe like forty-five minutes or so, maybe less. I don't go there very often. I haven't been there in a while." It had been a few years, he realized.
"Okay."
She grew quiet after that and Ethan smiled. "Are you thinking about the plants you want to buy?"
"No I'm thinking about a job."
"Oh." That's surprised him. But he realized it made sense. She was making plans already to move with him.
"I need a job and a car. I don't have that many clothes and I'm going to need to get more." She stopped to pick up another plant, and he realized it was the third time she'd picked that same plant up. Apparently she had a thing for it.
"You don't need to worry about a car, Mila. I have a few and you can have one of them if you want to drive. I don't mind," he told her. He had four cars of his own, and the pack had numerous cars. She wouldn't need to buy one.
"Well I suppose that's one problem solved but I will buy my own car eventually. I don't want to have to depend on you for everything." She sat the plant down and moved on.
"You're my mate Mila. I want to provide for you." She was so used to being independent. He could see them clashing on this one. He glanced at the name of the plant. Was it called a Monster?
"I didn't even know what you do." She turned to him.
"I'm a pack liaison."
"And a Prince."
"Yeah but that's not really a job." It sort of was, but not really. He had the same responsibilities as the rest of the pack liaisons. He just happened to be the Alpha King's son and incredibly powerful.
"It's not?"
"No. It's just the title I have." His gaze darted down to her neck.
"Is that why when we left the pack, they all bowed their heads to you?"
"Yeah, though it was partially because I was their Alpha for a bit too," he said. And they'll do the same for you when I claim you.
"I guess I need to learn werewolf protocol," she muttered, and he smiled. "So what does a pack liaison do?"
"I travel to different packs around the world and make sure that everything is good with them. That they're not doing anything wrong. Kind of like Alamo or worse," he said. They used to visit the packs every five years but since the incident with Salt Flats Pack right before his birth, it had changed to every two.
"What could be worse than that?"
"My sister, Noelle and Nick were looking into a pack several years ago. This was before I was even born. They were running a breeder program," Ethan said quietly. Nick had told him all about that a while ago. He'd never asked Noelle about it, nor would he. She'd been kidnapped by that Alpha, who intended to turn her into his breeder. Nick had told him it took Noelle quite a while to even tell him what all had happened while she'd been there, but Ethan had seen the anger in Nick, something he didn't see much of. It had pissed Ethan off, and now, just the thought of someone thinking they could take Mila and put her through that would infuriate him.
"Okay first off how old is your sister?"
Her question distracted him, and he looked back at her. "She's 46."
