Chapter 20

It was an awkward silence as the two men sat, not doing anything.

Cale stood a few metres away from the man, expecting him to be uncomfortable. I know it's good manners to offer a seat to guests but it's annoying standing for so long. I can't lean against a house cause the wall could fall in. The ground is muddy and still has ash in it and there aren't any places to sit on nearby. He glanced at the man whose eyes held no obvious emotions. The kids should be coming soon.

Some more minutes passed and the faint pitter patter of feet sounded from around a nearby corner but stopped.

They must've sensed someone else.

"It's alright. Come out" he called, ignoring the stares of the man.

Red and silver fur peeked around a house and quickly dashed to Cale's arms.

"Who's that?" Hong whispered in his ear.

"I don't know" Cale whispered back and the two kittens stared at him with weird looks. "But he currently can't understand us since he speaks another language. He hopefully isn't dangerous but stay on guard"

"Then why did you bring him?" On asked.

"I'll explain later. Right now, we need to establish basic communication"

Cale turned to the man who was looking at the kittens. So, how should I introduce myself? Just call myself Cale? It would be difficult to explain later.

He contemplated for a bit before deciding. Oh well, what's the worst that could happen? I just won't give him my last name. Even if I do, he wouldn't connect the dots.

Cale pointed at himself "Cale"

Then at the silver kitten "On"

And finally the red kitten "Hong"

He then pointed at the man who was watching this. The man realised and pointed to himself "Kim Rok Soo"

Kim Rok Soo? That a unique name. Well, he is from another world. I wonder how long he was in the forest of darkness anyway? Choi Han said he was in there for tens of years but Kim Rok Soo looks relatively clean, if you ignore the mud. But he has scars all over himself. Choi Han did say that his world was safe when he left.

Is Kim Rok Soo in a dangerous job? Or did the situation change when Choi Han left? Maybe he was actually in there for years but kept himself neat? I'll ask when we can hold a sentence.

-Human, should I show myself?

Besides, if he really is dangerous, I have a literal dragon to help me for now.

Cale shook his head.

Korea doesn't have anything similar to dragons. It has no magic either but it's not like I can even hide that for long. Poor Kim Rok Soo will get a shock.

"Teleport us all back to our inn room"

A light shone below them and Kim Rok Soo stood up quickly as he glared at Cale.

Oops- I probably should've at least tried to warn him. Too late now.

The light faded away and they were now in the inn room.

Kim Rok Soo took a cautious step back and surveyed the room. Cale looked down at the two kittens in his arms that were now lightly whacking his chest, seemingly scolding him.

He stared at their frowning faces and tried to stay serious.

I can't keep looking at them. They are too cute. Cale lifted his head and stared at man who looked like if someone trapped a stray cat.
