"divine intervention"

Lounging in Joong-Gil's office had become Chae-Yeong's favorite thing to do these days. She had all the paperwork with her to look over while Joong-Gil was doing his own work sitting behind his desk. The office was silent except of paper rustling when Chae-Yeong laid down one report to pick up another.

She held up a paper, her dark eyes skimming over the sentences making sure that everything's right when her eyes slowly fell to her right hand that was holding up the paper. More specifically, her wrist.

Ever since she and Joong-Gil had reunited, her wrist seemed to be engulfed in warmth. It didn't matter how cold it was, if Park Joong-Gil was with her, the warmth on her wrist seemed to be there. Now, it even felt like it was buzzing with tenderness and... content?

Kim Chae-Yeong's eyes then fell on the reaper who was sitting behind his desk, his eyebrows were furrowed in concentration. It took everything in Chae-Yeong not to stand up and walk towards him to smooth that wrinkle between his eyebrows. Instead, she returned her eyes to her wrist and spoke up.

"Honey?"

A low hum was heard coming form the man, that indicated that he has her full attention. But his eyes remained on the paper and the crease between his brows was still there.

"What do you know about the red string of fate?"

Joong-Gil blinked once, twice. Then he raised his head to look across the office to the female who were sprawled comfortably on his couch, paper in her hand. She raised her eyes to meet his. Chae-Yeong was content that the crease between his eyebrows at least has disappeared.

"Red string of fate?" Joong-Gil repeated. She nodded making him lean back in his chair. "Why are you suddenly asking about it?"

Chae-Yeong shrugged. "No reason, it's just that-"

She stopped, suddenly deep in her own thoughts. Why was she asking about it? It's not like she believed in stuff like that. Or did she? The things she started to feel the moment she was introduced to Joong-Gil were clearly unexplainable. Like the tug she felt on her wrist whenever she was away from him. It wasn't strong but still she felt it. Or the warmth that engulfed her wrist whenever she was with him.

Kim Chae-Yeong didn't want to believe it, but something did intervene in their fates to bring the two together. And she wasn't talking about the Director.

Something else, something otherworldly.

Chae-Yeong was so deep in her thoughts that she didn't notice how Joong-Gil abandoned his desk and instead walked towards her. Once she came to her senses, she too abandoned the report she was holding and stood up.

"What is worrying that pretty little mind of yours?"

Chae-Yeong smiled at the words, but then returned to pondering. "I've been thinking about this, this red string of fate. People claim that it brings two people together, regardless of place, time, or circumstances."

When Joong-Gil said nothing, she continued. "I think it wasn't a mere coincidence that we met. That we're together now. I think that there was something else that brought us together."

"The Director?" Joong-Gil raised his eyebrow and Chae-Yeong couldn't help but let out a small laugh.

"She too, but I think that she was merely guided by something."

Joong-Gil hummed and stepped closer to the woman, his right hand circling her waist, bringing her closer, the other resting on her neck, his thumb stroking her cheek.

"And you think that this red string of fate was what brought us together?"

Chae-Yeong sighed. "You know I don't believe in such things."

"Maybe it's about time you do."

His wors were quiet. Chae-Yeong was looking in the warm eyes that were looking at her with such gentleness and softness. She watched how a small smile made its way on Joong-Gil's lips and his eyes crinkled in the outer corners. She was too engrossed looking into his eyes that she failed to notice one tiny little difference.

Joong-Gil was the first to notice it as his left hand was up and cupping Chae-Yeong's cheek. The tiny red string that wrapped around his left wrist. He followed the string down his arm only to smile when he found were it ended.

Chae-Yeong was still oblivious to Joong-Gil's tiny amusement. Once she snapped out of the daze she was in, she furrowed her eyebrows. "What's so funny?"

Joong-Gil said nothing. He merely nodded towards her right hand that was placed on his chest. Chae-Yeong's eyes followed towards where Joong-Gil motioned only let out a soft gasp.

The same red string was wrapped around her right wrist, and much like the reaper before her, she followed the string to where it ended, wrapped around Joong-Gil's wrist that cupped her neck.

She raised her hand and took Joong-Gil's hand in her own. She gently intertwined their fingers, the red string lightly flowing in the air in sync with their movements. Nothing was spoken between them. Not a word. Only silent admiration.

Joong-Gil was the first to take his eyes off the linked hands and instead looked at the woman in his arms. It was nothing but fate that had brought them together. A divine intervention. And Park Joong-Gil couldn't be happier.

Once Chae-Yeong turned to face him, the man didn't waist another second and leaned in to capture her lips with his own. Chae-Yeong smiled in the kiss.

And while they both were preoccupied with each other their hands still intertwined and raised, the pair failed to notice how the red string of fate illuminated, shining brighter than the sun and humming with delight, as if in agreement with the silent confession that flowed between the pair.

The two people connected by the red string are destined lovers, regardless of place, time, or circumstances. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break.
