Scarlett's POV

◈⋙◇◈◇⋘◈

A/N: This is a unique chapter... It is a series of flashbacks through Scarlett's younger life... I really wanted to add in more of her backstory without excluding certain details that I don't want to forcibly add in through dialogue in the present.

This is my solution!!!!

Hopefully you enjoy this chapter... It was one of my favorite chapters to write since these are moments that I first came up with when creating Scarlett's character... It really is the beginning inspiration for her personality and motivation.

Thanks for reading!!!!

I throw my palm out as a fireball launches and lands perfectly on the small painted target we put along the cave wall. "Did you see that Papa!" I squeal with excitement like the 9 year old I am. "I did it! I did it!" Turning around, my father shakes his head as he chuckles under his breath.

"You know, when I gave you this challenge it was to encourage you to practice control over a couple years... not for you to master your aim in 2 months, Scarlett." I giggle before running up and throwing myself into the air, knowing he'll catch me like he always does. As we've done so many times before my father wraps me in his arms and kisses the top of my head. "I'm so proud of you. My little girl is one of a kind."

My heart warms as a toothy smile covers my face. "My prize!" I demand. "I got 100 hits in a row perfectly! Now for my prize. You promiseddddd."

Laughing, he kisses my head again before setting me down. "Alright, alright." He extends his hands out into the air as fire surrounds them before he magically summons two beautifully crafted swords. "Now they are going to be too big for you to properly practice with them now." He hesitates handing them over, knowing I'll probably unsheath them and start swinging away. "As I said, I didn't think you'd beat my challenge for another year or two. So while you may have them, we will not begin practicing with them yet."

Nodding frantically, my hands practically twitch as he starts handing them over. "Just like in the story!!!" I squeal looking at the black and gold handles.

"I had them specially made to look like the picture."

Jumping up and down I fall forward to wrap my arms around my father. "I love them, Papa!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thannnkkk youuuu!!!!" My mind briefly pictures the illustration of my favorite book where a powerful warrior from a great foreign land wields two swords as he defeats the evil threatening his home. "They're perfect! Just like The Crimson Deaths!"

"Now please remember that story is fiction." He puts on his serious adult voice. "You cannot take down armies like he could with two blades."

"Just you wait, Papa!" I allow the fire in my eyes to flare. "I'll become even stronger than The Crimson Death!"

Chuckling, he ruffles my untamed curly hair. "Why do I have a feeling you will certainly try?"

"Psssstttt." I call down the hall as I see the older man walking by. "Ppppssssssssttttttttt." My whispered voice increases as he fails to notice me on my first attempt. Finally the tall red head looks towards me before releasing a booming laugh. "Don't laugh at me." I snap with sass from behind the potted plant I'm peaking around. Scurrying down the hall I finally look up to face the 2nd son of the High Lord of Autumn... Barak... also known as my favorite uncle... not that he knows that of course.
