BAKUGO'S POV
"My client is willing to terminate her parental rights of Daizen Bakugo and Evangeline Marrow. She is not willing to terminate her rights to Kaoru and Kyo Bakugo." That's exactly what I was expecting. Daizen will be eighteen soon enough, and if he tells the judge he wants to live with me, they'll let him. I have custody of them all for the next year, no matter what. Daizen will be seventeen soon and be almost eighteen before she can get him back. The twins, on the other hand, are still so young.
"My client will not allow her to continue with full custody of any of the children," my lawyer said in return. Which I won't. She doesn't have a choice about Evan anymore. She lost her for good. It would just be a hell of a lot easier if she would sign her over before her court date next week, which will terminate her parental rights.
"Then we are at an impasse, and this may need to be resolved in court," the lawyer threatened. Rachel looked so smug, twirling her stringy red hair.
"That's fine," I said. She won't win. She may not lose everything, but she won't have full custody. She'll get the school breaks, but that is it. She's so high right now that she can barely stay awake. She thinks she's intimidating, but she's pathetic.
When I saw the worry on her and her lawyers face, I knew she was bluffing. She has no intention of taking me to court. Even if she scheduled it all, she would try to postpone or probably not show up at all.
Our lawyers finished chatting before dismissing themselves. We were told not to discuss personal details, but we rarely listened. As soon as they were gone, she glared at me. "I'm giving you two kids. You should give me the other two."
I clenched my fists. "They're not property that can be split evenly." Plus, Evan isn't my kid. I want to take her home with me, but I won't give up the twins to do so. She's young enough that she'll still have a high chance of being adopted through foster care. The twins will never be in that position.
"Go to rehab," I told her.
She scoffed before laughing. "I don't need rehab."
"Rachel, you do need rehab. You almost killed your daughter. Our sons don't want to come home to you. Rachel, you need help. I'm offering you help and willing to pay for it all. I just need you to agree." I don't care what she does with her life, but our kids do. They need to see their mother get better, not go through this shit.
"I don't need rehab. I don't need help." She's a fucking liar.
"Why do you want the twins? Wouldn't you prefer not to have anyone to look after?" She could do whatever the hell she wanted if she just signed them over. She could do whatever drugs she wanted with whoever she wanted.
When she didn't answer, I grabbed the papers from the table and stood up. "If you're not going to talk, I have to go."
"Hot date?" I don't know why the hell she bothers with teasing me.
"Deku's at the hotel, and I have to pick up Evan." I already have temporary custody of her for the next six months. However, when she officially loses her parental rights next week, I'll begin with the adoption process.
"Deku's here?" Her smirk widened as her eyes focused on mine. "You're still stringing along after him like a dog with its tail between his legs."
"Stop," I said in a warning tone. I don't care what her opinion about Deku is. She's entitled to her wrong opinion, but I don't need to hear about it.
"At least when you asked me to marry you, I said yes."
I didn't reply. There's nothing she and I need to talk about, especially when it comes to Deku. She doesn't understand what it's like to lose everything like he has. If we were having dinner and a villain attacked the restaurant, drawing all the heroes out and putting Daizen to sleep for what could be forever, I don't think I would have said yes, either. I asked, and then the glass shattering and the people screaming echoed just a few seconds later.
