MIDORIYA'S POV
When I walked into Aimi's hospital room, Kacchan immediately pulled me toward him. "What's going on? Is Aimi okay?"
"She's fine," he reassured.
"Then what are we doing here? Our flight leaves in a few hours." Three hours, to be exact. It's a private jet and can be delayed if necessary, but I hate deterring from the schedule.
"Oh good, you're both here," All Might said as he and Endeavor walked in, dragging a man behind them who was in cuffs and chains. He was cuffed around the waist and ankles, and his hands were cuffed directly in front of his waist.
I've never been more confused. "What's going on?" I turned to my fiancé. "Kacchan?"
"Hold on, baby," he said, pulling us away from the bed.
Endeavor un-cuffed the man's wrist, and immediately, I tried to step forward as he placed his greasy hand on Aimi's head. Kacchan held me still as the man took a deep breath. I didn't know what he was doing for a moment, but when Aimi sat up, it wasn't hard to piece it together.
They found him. They fucking found him.
Her eyes slowly fluttered open, and my heart skipped a beat. Everything around me froze as I watched my daughter take a deep breath and then cough violently.
Kacchan said something to All Might and Endeavor, but I didn't hear what he'd said. I couldn't hear anything right now. Time was frozen. I could see people moving, but everything felt entirely still to me.
It wasn't until Aimi's green eyes locked on mine that I snapped out of it. "Dad?"
Tears flooded my face as I lunged forward, wrapping my arms around her frail body. "Birdie."
"Where am I?" she asked, burying her head into my shoulder. "What happened?"
"I'm going to notify the doctor," Kacchan said before leaving the room. Neither of us acknowledged him, but I bet he was expecting that.
"You don't remember?" I asked.
"Kacchan proposed, the glass exploded... then it goes fuzzy." She pulled away from me, but I didn't fully let her go. I never want to let her go again. "Where did all of your muscles go?" Her eyes raked up and down my body before looking out the window. "Dad? How long have I been here?"
"Nearly a year," I said, trying to hold back the tears.
I'm so glad she's okay.
She turned back to me with wide eyes. "A year?"
"The villain put you in a coma, and it took so long to find him." I didn't know that he'd been found. I can't help but wonder how long they've been close and why they didn't tell me.
"You're okay?" she asked, gripping my shirt tightly. "I thought for sure that if anything ever happened to me, you'd..." she trailed off, not needing to finish her sentence. "I'm so glad you held on."
"I'm so sorry, Aimi." I thought for sure she'd be upset that she missed a year of her life. But here she is, worrying about me instead. She knows I don't want to live in a world where she doesn't exist. I don't want to live in a world where any of my kids don't exist. It was hard enough losing Sayuri and then Aimi being in a coma. Now, I have way more kids to look after, and I swear, I'll do anything to protect them all.
"A whole year?" she asked, finally processing her missing birthday, the holidays, and the events she missed.
"I'm so sorry, Aimi."
She hugged me again as the doctor stepped into the room. "I hear we're celebrating in here today," he said with a wide smile. "It's so good to see you awake, Aimi Midoriya."
