BAKUGO'S POV

"Morning," Richard said as I walked into my kitchen, where he, Hannah, and Daizen were making lunch.

"Morning," I mumbled. "Sorry for sleeping in so late." After not getting home until six in the morning, I didn't crawl into bed until almost seven. It's just past noon.

"That's what heroes do," Daizen said. "Deku left a few minutes ago to take Evan to her appointment." Fuck. I wanted to go to that. I vaguely remember him trying to wake me up a little while ago, but I was exhausted and didn't want to get up.

"Okay." I walked to the coffee pot, getting ready to make a new pot. I was surprised to see a fresh pot going.

"Deku started it before he left. Should be done any second now," Daizen said, handing me my favorite cup from the cabinet. "Do you want a sandwich?"

"I'm fine. Thank you, though." When the coffee finished, I filled my cup before joining their conversation.

"You both call him Deku still?" Hannah asked. From an outside perspective, I guess calling your fiancé by their hero name is strange. It would be like Deku calling my Dynamight.

"Deku is actually the childhood nickname I gave him," I explained. "I've called him that since I could read and write."

"That's sweet," Hannah said. "He chose his hero name because of you."

It's sweet as long as they don't want to know what it means.

"What are your plans for the day?" I asked my son.

"You're not working, right?" Daizen asked me.

"No. I'm off the next three days." Even if I hate working for Endeavor due to not getting extended time off for family issues, I can appreciate that I only work three days a week. "What's up?"

He turned back to Richard and asked, "What's your quirk?"

Richard frowned. "Time travel and manipulation. Please tell me you didn't take after my quirk."

Daizen frowned. "I did. I was hoping you could teach me how to actually use it. Mom didn't want me to train it, and I never fought for it. Now, I want to know more about it."

Richard and Hannah shared a sad look. "Daizen, it can be a nasty quirk. For some reason, the firstborn son usually has the exact same quirk. For so long, I thought I had ended that." He pursed his lips and took a deep breath through his nose before continuing. "The quirk can be dangerous, and I don't recommend using it entirely."

"What do you mean by that?" Daizen asked.

"When I was kid, I had four brothers. My youngest brother died in a villain attack, and when my father tried to go back in time and fix it, he came back, and instead of my youngest brother being gone, it was the other two and my mother. And since he already altered time, he couldn't alter that exact moment again. He had to live with the fact that he chose one son over two others and his wife. Now, I don't really remember it. It's different for the people who didn't travel back. I don't remember a universe where my youngest brother died. I only know the one I live in now. However, I did travel through the memories. I did see it." My heart ached. I couldn't imagine doing that and then having to live with it. If anything happened to any one of my kids... fuck. Deku's stronger than I give him credit for.

"Then, whenever something happened, he kept asking himself if it was his fault because he messed with time like that. People can't escape their fate without dire consequences. Because of that, I won't teach you to use time manipulation. It's torn this family apart for years, and I don't want to see you take the same path and suffer. I care about you too much to watch you spiral down that path. Most men who have used it in our family have committed suicide before they turned forty." I grabbed Diazen's arm and pulled him closer to me, suddenly not wanting to let go. Holding him wasn't going to stop a damn thing, and I know that, but it helped for a moment.
