OCTAVIOUS POV:

I let go of the rope and laid on the ground. I think I broke something. The bull ran off and a few cowboys went after it. Jedediah came up to me and got off his horse.

"Octy, are you alright" he asked.

"No" I said in pain.

Jedediah helped me to my feet and held me in his arms.

"Come on, lets go patch you up" said Jedediah.

Jedediah took me to the town.

"Does your arm still hurt" asked Jedediah.

"Ya" I said holding it.

I looked at Jedediah.

"How do you do that everyday" I asked.

"Years of practice. Although it probably wasn't a good idea to bring you out there with very little experience" said Jedediah.

"Is all your work that dangerous" I asked.

"No, there is other stuff as well. We also take care of animals and repair fences and stuff. I think today we should stick with the more simple stuff" said Jedediah.

He took me to his house and got a first aid kit. Jedediah grabbed two sticks and tied them around my arm to make a cast.

"Why not go to a hospital" I asked.

"Not much for hospitals in the west. Besides, I know how to make a cast" said Jedediah.

"Did you originally plan to be a doctor" I asked.

"No, it's just that being a cowboy means you have lots of alone time. So you got to know how to take care of yourself if something happens out there" said Jedediah.

I keep forgetting just how lonely it is out there for a cowboy. I can't imagine what that would be like. Jedediah finished wrapping my arm up and stood up.

"There, should feel better soon. But I have alcohol and some natural pain killer if you would like" said Jedediah.

"I'll take it" I said.

Jedediah gave me some herbs and a shot of alcohol to drink. I took the medicine as he put everything away. After a quick break we went back to work. Jedediah decided to have us take care of the animals today.

"We still have to repair the fence for the cows but there are other animals like pigs and sheep" said Jedediah.

We got some animal feed and went to feed the animals. I have never taken care of livestock before so this is a new experience. Jed gave me a bucket with some chicken feed.

I tried to feed the chickens but they kept running away scared. I put my hand out and came up to the chickens but they scattered away.

"Some dinosaurs you are" I said.

"What" asked Jedediah.

"I heard some guest talk about how chickens are a dinosaur" I said.

"Well that can't be right" said Jedediah.

"Either way, why aren't these chicken eating? Are they not hungry" I asked.

"No, you're being to forceful. Try throwing the feed on the ground" said Jedediah.

I took a small hand full and dropped it on the ground. The chickens walked up and started eating it. This actually surprised me.

"They, eat off the ground" I asked looking at Jed.

"Ya, a lot of animals do" said Jedediah.

I have never heard of such a thing. Then again I never had pets and took care of animals. We continued to feed the chickens and other animals. I'm learning so much about farming and animals but I also have dirt in places I didn't even know I had.

Some of the animals are different here. Like dogs for example. Now Rome does have dogs but we don't have the komondor as Jedediah called it. It looks like a mop but they are one of the breeds used to protect sheep.
