That night, Kiaria sensed that something was amiss. It must have been the white-haired man causing her three guardians to engage in a discussion. After dinner, she was instructed to retreat to her bedroom and not to venture out.
Aware that her guardians would be displeased if they discovered her eavesdropping, Kiaria grappled with curiosity and cracked her door open slightly, straining to catch their conversation.
"Should we consider leaving?" Helena inquired. "I am not sure if departing is wise. We lack alternative protection for Kiaria here. The townsfolk rallied behind me when things escalated with Jax," Cassie replied.
"I am more shocked he has not let go after so many years," Joseph lamented.
"Chasing after a young girl is sheer madness. We are all old enough to be her father." Kiaria tries to stick her ear out to get as much information as possible. Jax—where had she heard that name before? His distinctive white hair jogged her memory, but the connection eluded her. That man's name is Jax? She recalls seeing him and his name, but she can't remember where exactly.
"I am worried that Jax might manipulate the townsfolk through his subordinates. Hiring a few S-tier possessors could easily subject them to mind control," Cassie remarked.
"Could we secure a protection order for her?" Helena wondered. "Probably not. The local government maintains friendly ties with the Federation. They might betray Kiaria to preserve relations," Joseph reasoned.
Kiaria gasped, drawing their attention. Cassie approached her, his towering presence intimidating despite his crippled legs. "Kiaria," he muttered sternly, "when we tell you not to leave your room, you listen. You got that?"
Kiaria trembled, nodding before hastily shutting her door.
"Cassie, please," Helena pleaded, "don't frighten her." "I'd rather be the bad guy now than risk losing her and being afraid," Cassie confessed, adamant about protecting Kiaria. He could not bear the thought of her suffering, determined to shield her from the pain that had befallen Ayla and Sans.
Upon discovering Kiaria, Cassie had sensed a familiarity with her. Learning that Ayla adhered to the temple's ancient religion during his brief stay, Cassie delved into manuscripts left by predecessors.
One theory posited that Chlorokinesis abilities could be hereditary, passed down through lineage. Scanning records of Chlorokinesis possessors, Cassie noticed striking similarities to Sans—brown hair, brown eyes, and a gentle countenance.
Kiaria felt like Sans, but how could a human revert to infancy? Another manuscript suggested that when a Chlorokinesis possessor of Great Mother Nature perished, they underwent rebirth, akin to a plant regressing to a seedling to preserve life. Cassie dismissed this as implausible, yet couldn't deny the peculiarities surrounding Kiaria's existence.
Determined to preserve Kiaria's innocence, Cassie refrained from delving deeper into these mysteries. His sole objective was to safeguard her happiness, shielding her from the selfish interests of others who would exploit her abilities.
