"Oh," replies Kiaria.
Perhaps he doesn't remember all the past lives.
"So how did you figure that out about me?"
"You're asking multiple questions, Kiaria."
"Well. You could ask me multiple questions too."
"& you're sure that you will answer them?"
"Yeah of course," Kiaria says as she folds her arms. "Why wouldn't I?"
Jax gives a half smile. They had finished their lunch and remained at the dining table, which made Kiaria a little nervous. She hasn't had such a long conversation with Jax before.
"Do you still have a crush on Cassie now?"
"No no," Kiaria replies in a flustered manner.
"I grew out of it. Also, it's weird to like him now."
"Why?"
"Because...of the age gap."
"But you just mentioned earlier that you liked older men."
"Yes, but that was based on Cassie. I don't have past references. So, how did you know that I would be a plant possessor even before I had my awakening?"
"I had dropped by before to take a look at you. And I knew instinctively that you were going to be one."
"So you planned...from the start?"
"I wouldn't say right from the start. It's more of waiting for an opportunity to be seized."
"Then would 1 year honestly be enough?"
Jax stands up and walks towards Kiaria. He sits next to her which closes the physical gap between the both of them. Kiaria is slightly afraid that Jax could hear her heavy breathing.
"It would be nice if you could be here for a longer period."
"Then why did you settle for 1 year?"
"I can't make you stay if you don't want to."
The silence spreads across the room and fills it up. Kiaria thinks about how Ange J has been either pushing her off the edge or killing someone by her side in all her past lives. His murder count increases each time their lives restart. She remembers the curses that J laid on Angel C and Great Mother Nature Earth Goddess.
Angel C would never have a happy ending so long as J didn't get his happiness.
Great Mother Earth Spirit became weak over time and disappeared from the face of Earth.
What if Kiria made a choice different from all her other predecessors? Instead of running away from him, to face him head-on?
"Then, were you going to continuously look for new opportunities to enter contracts with me for the rest of your life?"
Another round of silence ensues.
"Be honest..."
"...yes. I would. Are you disgusted by my actions?"
The vision of dead Cassie, Helena and Joseph floats in her head. She recalls everyone else who died because they were implicated with her. All because of this madman. She couldn't even bear the thought of seeing them die. Did she even have the courage to take responsibility for their deaths? Kiaria looks up to see Jax staring at him.
He was pouring his full attention onto Kiaria. His eyes seemed to flare streaks of golden light, and Kiaria thought that it was beautiful. He looked like he needed an answer to his confession which rendered him a little vulnerable.
"Instead of scheming every year, why not you treat me and the others around me a little nicer and a little gentler...and convince me to stay on my own accord instead of signing random contracts with you that you have to worry about renewal every time..." Kiaria doesn't dare to look up as she blabbers out whatever sentences she could form on her mind.
Jax looks at her. He shows a half smile and observes her intently. Kiaria breaks their exchange and looks away briefly, slightly awkward by their interaction.
