Amelia stared at the letter in her hands, wondering if it was worthwhile opening it despite having a guess of what there might have been written inside. It could have hurt her, but curiosity took the best on her, winning her internal debate.

She found an intimate place close to the Great Hall to have enough privacy and sat down with her legs crisscrossed. She was handling the letter as if it could break at any moment, opening it up with trembling fingers.

Amelia,

I thought I had raised you well, but evidently, I was wrong. How could my niece, a Black, end up in Gryffindor! Our whole family has been in Slytherin for entire generations. The only exception was your father, but your grandmother removed his name from our family tree. Why can't you be as your brother? Why can't you follow his examples? He is a prefect, on the top of all his classes, but mostly, he is a Slytherin! You have disappointed me, Amelia. You betrayed my trust by accepting to be sorted into that house, and I don't think you will ever be able to win it back. Perhaps you don't belong to this family, just as Siruis before you.

Goodbye, Amelia,

Arthur Black.

She carefully folded it, hiding it in her school uniform. She had a plunge in her heart as she read it, feeling hot tears wetting her cheeks. She knew it would happen, but deep down inside her, there was still a small spark of hope, which told her that her uncle would forgive her for not being in Slytherin.

But now she just felt a terrible emptiness in her heart. She had never liked her duties as a member of the Black's family, but it was all she had. She was a Black. In her veins rushed the Black's blood. And now suddenly she wasn't it anymore.

She had to cover her mouth with a hand when a sob was able to escape her control. Her world was falling apart on her shoulders, but she wasn't strong enough not to be crushed down.

She silently cried, hugging her legs to hide her face as much as she could, feeling her vision going blurry and the sobs being more frequent.

Being cut off from her family was her worst nightmare. The others were nothing compared to this. She knew they were happening just inside her head, but this was real. It was right in front of her face. Now she was just Amelia, but a part of her would forever be a Black. That's who she was, and no one could ever bring that away from her.

"Amy, what is it?" Asked a voice that now Amelia had perfectly memorised. It was Cedric. "Hey, what's happening, little one?" He sat down next to her, wrapping her in a comforting embrace as he tenderly rubbed her back. She froze when she realised he was hugging her. It was the first time someone ever did that to her.

Amelia's sobs became uncontrollable as her body trembled between Cedric's arms. "I-I... m-my u-u-uncle... h-he..."

"Shh, Amy," the boy whispered softly, "it's alright, everything will be alright, okay?"

She tried to focus on his reassuring voice, trying to shut down the ringing in her ears, which echoed her uncle's words: "You're a failure, Amelia."

"You're not alone, Amy," Cedric said, "I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere. I promise you that."

"Y-you d-don't know that," she stuttered, hiding her face in the crook of his neck as she completely abandoned herself in his embrace. Her eyes were still filled with tears that she tried not to let free.

Cedric gently lifted her chin with his fingers to make her look at him. "I know that instead. I will always be by your side, Amy. You're stuck with me, little one."
