| WHEN THE PARTY IS OVER by Billie Eilish |
:・゚✧:・.☽˚。・゚✧:It took a few seconds for the absurdity of this statement to sink it; then, Ron expressed what was going on everyone's mind.
"You're both mental."
"Yeah, as much as I'd rather slit my throat than agree with Weasley, I think this is a bit unlike to be true," sarcastically said Amelia. It was impossible that Pettigrew had seriously lived as a rat for all this time; who could have ever put up with not only a rat but Ronald Weasley's rat even for just a day?
But again, Peter's body had never been found, and, as much as it sounded crazy, maybe it was because of the madness of his plan indeed that Pettigrew had been able to get away with.
Her brain told her that it was impossible that her father was telling the truth, and that he was just a murderer who had invented this rather bizarre story to convince everyone of his innocence; whilst her heart made her unconsciously consider the possibility of Pettigrew being for real Scabbers.
"It's ridiculous!" Granger said faintly.
"Peter Pettigrew's dead!" Said Harry. "You killed him twelve years ago!" He pointed at Sirius, whose face twitched convulsively.
"I meant to," Black growled, his teeth barred, "but little Peter got better of me... not this time, though!"
Crookshanks was thrown to the floor as Sirius lunged at Scabbers. Ron yelled with pain as Black's weight fell on his broken leg.
"Sirius, No!" Lupin yelled, launching himself forward and dragging Black away from the ginger boy. "WAIT! You can't do it just like that -- they need to understand -- we've got to explain --"
"We can explain afterwards!" Snarled Sirius, trying to throw Lupin off himself as with one hand he was still trying to grab Scabbers, who was squealing like a piglet, scratching Ron's neck and face as he tried to escape.
"They have -- got -- the -- right -- to -- know -- everything!" Remus panted, persevering in restraining Black. "Ron's kept him as a pet! There are parts of it that even I don't understand! And Amelia... You owe her and Harry the truth, Sirius!"
Sirius stopped struggling, though his hollowed eyes were still fixed on Scabbers, who was clamped under Ron's bitten, scratched, bleeding hands.
"All right, then," Black said without taking his eyes off the rat. "Tell them whatever you like. But make it quick, Remus, cause I want to commit the murder I was imprisoned for..."
"You're nutters, both of you," Ron tried to leave, heaving himself on his good leg, but Lupin raised his wand again, pointing it at Scabbers.
"You might want to think again about your next move, Weasley," Amelia said with a devilish smile. After everything Ron had made her go through this year, Amelia wouldn't have gone easy on him, and that was only the beginning.
The redhead murmured something Amelia wasn't able to decipher, but she guessed he had just told her not so friendly words.
"You're going to hear me out, Ron," Lupin said quietly. "Just keep a tight hold on Peter while you listen."
"HE'S NOT PETER, HE'S SCABBERS!" Ron yelled, trying to force the rat back into his pocket.
"There were witnesses who saw Pettigrew die," Harry pointed out. "A whole street full of them..."
"They didn't see what they thought they saw!" Said Black savagely, still watching Scabbers struggling in Ron's hands.
"Everyone thought Sirius had killed Peter," added Lupin, nodding. "I believed it myself -- until I saw the map tonight. Because the Marauder's Map never lies... Peter is alive. Ron's holding him, Amelia, Harry."
