:・゚✧:・.☽˚。・゚✧:Gryffindor's euphoria for winning the Quiddich Cup lasted at least a week. Even the weather seemed to be celebrating; as June approached, days became cloudless and sultry, and all anybody felt doing like was strolling onto the grounds and flopping down on the grass with several pints of iced pumpkin juice playing Gobstones or watching the huge squid propel itself dreamily across the surface of the lake.
But they couldn't. Exams were just around the corner, and instead of lazing around outside, the students were constricted to remain inside the castle, trying their best to force their mind to concentrate while wafts of summer air drifted in through the windows.
Even Fred and George had been spotted working. They were about to take their O.W.L.s, while Percy was gonna get his N.E.W.T.s, the highest qualification Hogwarts offered. He was becoming increasingly edgy and gave very severe punishments to anyone who disturbed the quietness of the common room in the evenings. In fact, the only person who was more anxious than Percy was Granger.
Harry and Ronald had given up asking her how the hell she was managing to attend multiple lessons at once, but they couldn't restrain themselves when they saw the exam schedule she had drown up for herself. According to that, she was supposed to do both Arithmancy's and Transfiguration's test at nine o'clock and Charms' and Ancient Runes' test at one o'clock.
"Hermione," the ginger boy cautiously said since she was liable to explode when interrupted these days. "Er -- are you sure you have copied down these times right?"
"What?" The ice princess snapped, and for a moment, Amelia internally rejoiced cause for once Granger wasn't mad at her. The bushy-haired girl picked up the schedule, examining it. "Yes, of course I have."
"Is there any point asking how you're going to sit for two exams at the same time?" Asked Harry.
Amelia sparred a concerned look at her roommate. Lately, she had become a fake copy of herself. Due to all the stress for these useless exams, she was almost sleeping less than Amelia, which was a bit hard since the younger girl was usually able to turn her mind off for no more than a couple of hours. The huge grey bags under Granger's eyes were an objective proof. Amelia saw her when she came up into their dorm at night, her hands full of books that the brunette still wondered how she could lift up. However, Amelia never dared to say anything. She didn't think that her opinion would matter to Granger.
"No," Granger said shortly. "Have either of you seen my copy of Numerology and Grammatica?"
"Oh, yes, I borrowed it for a bit of bedtime reading," said Ron, but very quietly; Granger started shifting heaps of parchment around the table, looking for the book. Then there was a rustle at the window. Hedwig fluttered through it, a note attached to her beak.
"It's from Hagrid," said Harry, sipping the note open. "Buckbeak's appeal is set for the sixth."
"That's the day we finish our exams," Amelia observed while Granger went on looking anywhere for her Arithmancy book.
"And it will be here," Harry said, going on reading. "There will be someone who represents the Minister of Magic and... and an executioner."
The ice princess lifted her eyes, taken aback. "They are bringing the hangman at the appeal! It's like as if they had already made a choice!"
"Yeah," said Amelia in a low voice. Thus, all the work she and Granger had done both for Hagrid and Buckbeak would be useless.
It was obvious to Amelia that it had been Mr Malfoy to decide for the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures. And that meant that there were no more hopes for the Hippogriff. It would be executed.
