27th January 1993

It was an ordinary day for anyone, but for Amelia, it was not: it was Aaron's birthday. Sixteen was a big number, wasn't it? Well, she would have wanted to celebrate it with her brother, trying at least for once to be true siblings and put aside their hate for each other; however, Aaron evidently didn't agree with her.

The sharp pain Amelia had felt when she spotted him blowing on his candles together with his Slytherin mates was not comparable to any other one. It was like having being stabbed in the chest by ten different knives at the same time, simply unbearable.

She should have been there with him. She should have been there to celebrate this day with Aaron, hugging him and telling him that, despite everything, he was always gonna have a place in her heart even though she didn't have one inside his.

Cedric was her brother by choice, Aaron was her brother by blood, but it seemed that sharing the same genes didn't matter a lot to him. She had completely been cut off his life, and the fact was that Amelia couldn't wrap her mind about it.

She had written him a letter yesterday, well knowing that he would never receive it. It was the only way she could take off her shoulders this heavy weight of now being Amelia and not Amy to him anymore.

She stroked the lion drawn on Cedric's bracelet, and a tiny smile spread on her face. The older boy was her rock, her safe place when outside there was a storm, her better half.

Speaking of Cedric, didn't he say that she could talk to him through the bracelet? She pressed the front a bit, whispering: "Ced, are you there?"

A giggle could be heard coming from the piece of metal. "I was beginning to think you'd never try to speak to me through my gift."

His voice was low, similar to the one you have when you just woke up. "I didn't want to disturb you," Amelia replied quietly. It was late at night, and she was rocking in the chair in a remote corner of the library uselessly trying to find something that could help Buckbeak not to be executed. It was like looking for a needle in a haystack, and she definitely wasn't going to succeed in her mission. She wasn't Granger, who, undoubtedly, would make it seem an easy task.

She was currently risking an indigestion due to the all chocolate frogs she ate while she was researching through the old dusty books. For her, the combination of eating and studying was utterly perfect, but certainly not for her poor cramping stomach.

She had given up on her case a couple of minutes ago, relaxing on her chair, zoning out when Aaron's birthday flashed through her mind. "You never disturb me, Amy," Cedric's reassuring voice echoed inside her ears. "I gave you the bracelet cause I wanted to be able to be there for you even when I couldn't be there physically. Don't be afraid to use it. Hearing your melodic voice is the best part of my day."

"Then I guess that from now on, you will hear me more often," Amelia playfully said, tiredly rubbing her swollen eyes.

"Looking forward to it, Amy," Cedric responded, and even though Amelia didn't see him, she could tell he had his charming smile plastered on his face. "However, perhaps now you should go to sleep, otherwise tomorrow you will look like a zombie."

Again with this zombie thing. Granger had already compared her to this weird zombie at the beginning of the year. She didn't dare to ask what it was back then cause she didn't want the ice princess to think she was dumb, but she could ask Cedric, he would never judge her.

"What's a zombie?"

"Usually, in many stories, a zombie is a frightening creature that is a dead person who has been brought back to life, but without human qualities." The grey eyed boy explained, offering Amelia a definition that would deserve to stay in the dictionaries.
