The next day passed by as a blur as the group rushed out of the abandoned building, wanting to get as much distance from the CDC as possible. Shane had been insisting all morning that they needed to make it to Fort Benning before nightfall, which, as Micah had pointed out multiple times, would be impossible.

There was barely enough fuel to get them out of the city and Fort Benning was over a hundred miles away, not to mention the multiple stops they'd been making along the way in order to downsize on cars.

Every stop was tactful, as the group would spread out and try to find any useful supplies near them, while Rick would disappear from the group, for minutes at a time, muttering about sending a message to an old friend. Lori wasn't too pleased by his sudden disappearances, but it seemed her newfound annoyance towards Shane was keeping her mind occupied from her worry. Lori no longer seemed afraid of Shane, instead just annoyed by his presence as a whole.

They'd gotten rid of a few cars along the way, downsizing for gas consumption. Daryl had managed to keep his motorcycle, while Rick was driving a separate car from the others for his family and Carol and her daughter. Everyone else was forced to cramp into either the RV or Micah's beat-up van which he was more than willing to let Rick's group squeeze in. Surprisingly, Vince had also opted for joining the smaller group in the van, much to Dale's dismay, and taking up what little space they had left.

Hannah had decided that morning to go with Micah and his group, arguing that it was too crowded in the RV, which most of the group had agreed on. Gemma, however, wasn't at all convinced, throwing a bit of a fuss over the sudden decision, but didn't have much of a say in what Hannah did.

In truth, Hannah didn't actually want to leave the RV, but the thought of being able to avoid Shane for just a bit longer was overpowering. Gemma was the other person Hannah found herself wanting to avoid, as the two hadn't talked since that night in the CDC.

The odd silence was the only thing Hannah regretted as she sat squished between the back window and Westley who was reading a book Conrad had found during one of their stops. The only noise in the van was that of Vince and Micah who were in deep discussion over what they planned to do once the group made it to the military facility. Conrad, who was driving also chimed into the conversation occasionally, while Arabella was holding on to the C.V Radio Shane had given her so everyone could keep in touch if anything went wrong. Lilith sat at the other end of the seat, also reading a book and Luna was sitting with Micah and Vince listening to music on an old Ipod Lily had let her borrow.

As much as she hated to admit it, Hannah was missing the chaotic feeling inside the RV; Briggs's random comments, Quincy following her around for every little thing, and even Carl's annoying words of encouragement.

Though she'd never admit the latter out loud.

"Why are we slowing down now?" Conrad suddenly asked out loud, catching the group's attention as the RV in front of them slowly came to a complete halt.
