Screams echoed through the halls as people ran in all directions, fleeing from the infected, yet there was no way out; They were coming from every direction, pouring out of every corner and latching on to anyone they could catch up to
"Break the windows!" Someone yelled as glass shattered everywhere and people resorted to jumping out in an attempt to save themselves. It was a last resort for many, though proving to be just as dangerous as staying was.
Don't look back...
Keep running...
Was all she could think about as she pushed herself to keep going, turning at every corner in hopes of outrunning the screeching and clicking noises behind her.
People continued to yell in every direction as red splattered everywhere, leaving trails down each corner she passed; But she continued to run, refusing to look back and trying her best to drown out the noise as she looked for a way out of that mess.
Her feet burned with each step as she continued to quicken her pace, fearing that death was right behind her. Pushing past rows of fleeing people and fallen debris, she ignored the intensity of her increasing heart rate, trying her best to fight against the shortness of breath she was feeling as she pushed past her limits forcing herself to go further.
As much as it hurt, running meant living as she continued to push past her own limits, trying to find her escape. There was no way she was dying there, not after everything she'd been through.
The screams had quickly become distant as she'd made the mistake of looking back, her own judgement getting the better of her, and causing her to collide with someone else, stopping her pace entirely as she fell head first on to the ground among the mess of chairs and desks. The other person toppled over her, sliding forwards into the masses that had caught up during the tumble.
Within seconds everything had become a blur as loud ringing began to drown out the chaos, the screams becoming muffled; It was almost as if she'd been submerged head first into a tank of water. Feet trampled past her, completely oblivious to the child they were leaving behind among the scattered debris.
With a gasp, she looked back at the culprit for her downfall, only to find them struggling to fight off one of the infected without any luck. It was their scream that had finally managed to snap her back into reality, cutting through the ringing of her ears as she looked around for anything that could help her.
It was then that her eyes laid upon the door at end of the hall, and she began to crawl her way towards. Adrenaline rushed through her body as she dragged herself closer from under the fallen debris; Her legs were quickly giving out in exhaustion as she pushed herself up, struggling to stay up and reaching for the knob.
She fiddled with the knob, watching as walkers poured into the hall yet at the last second the door finally flung open as she fell inside slamming it shut behind her.
