"Come soon or we will miss this chance," Sumitra said while walking towards Rani's place. Kayanangai followed her slowly as she's not at all interested to go there. Rani has summoned a sorceress, who's famous in the town nowadays. They heard her specialty was predicting the future accurately so Rani wanted to know what her son's future will be and about her husband's health. Ever since Aathiyan became the Raja, his father's health kept deteriorating.
Kayanangai couldn't understand this. How can one predict a future just by looking at the person.
No one is going to live an eternal life, so these future predictions seem insignificant for Kayanangai. But Sumitra was so keen to know about her future, especially her child's gender so Kayanangai accompanied her to see the mage half-heartedly.
Rani came out of the room, having an impassive face. She's so good at hiding her emotions. When Kayanangai met her for the first time, she thought Rani is a kind hearted woman but then she understood that her kindness is only for those who are sly and deceptive not for the normal person who makes mistakes and is honest at all the times.
Kayanangai wondered what the Sorceress predicted about her sons' future.
"Mother, what she said?" Sumitra asks. Kayanangai stood aside keeping her ears sharp to hear what Rani was about to say. She is curious about Aathiyan's future because she cares a lot more about him than she cares about herself.
"She said many good things are going to happen in this family," Rani said, glancing at Kayanangai.
"Don't ask any silly questions to her," Rani said before walking out of the place.
Sumitra turned to Kayanangai, asking if she could go first.
"I'll wait for you," Kayanangai said. They have to see her alone and shouldn't discuss the predictions to anyone until it all happens.
They have also been informed that they shouldn't give anything other than money.
While waiting, Kayanangai wondered what she had to ask her. Suddenly there are so many questions lined in her head, but the important one is how her life will be in the future? Happy or sad?
Time passed, she stood near the lawn watching the drizzling rain damping all the trees and walls. She thought about what Aathiyan must be doing now, he left yesterday and she hopes his journey is safe. Since Narenthiran was with him, she didn't worry much.
When Sumitra came out, her face seemed confused but she had a smile.
"What happened? What she said?" Kayanangai asks in excitement.
"She told me I am going to have a son and after that two daughters,"
"That's wonderful," Kayanangai smiles.
"Yes, but she also said to me that I'll have a hard life,"
"Who's going to have an easy life?" Kayanangai smiles.
"But the way she said, worries me,"
"Oh, don't worry. Not everything she said is going to happen. Just forget this and put the smile back on your face," Kayanangai cheered her.
"Yes, you should go now. I'll wait for you," Sumitra said and walked to sit on the chaise. She will go into labor any time soon and she was looking forward to that.
Kayanangai hesitantly made her way into that dimly lighted room. The smell of incense and sage filled in the air. Compared to what she had thought the fortune-teller looked younger, must be around twenty-five to thirty years old. She looked beautiful and had a charming smile on her lustrous lips.
