I can't help the small smile that makes its way to my face as I park my car in front of the fair. The thought of coming here is the only thing that has gotten me through the first week back to school. Instead of focusing on the teacher's lectures about how we're in our final year of school and have to start taking everything seriously, I daydreamed about going to the fair.

The fair is my favourite thing about November. I prefer coming here over Thanksgiving dinner, and that says a lot since my mom and I make amazing meals for it. There was no sight that could beat the shimmering lights of the fair at night, illuminating the area to make up for the lack of stars in the sky. The screams of the people and the announcers on the megaphones could be heard from miles away, making the drive to the fair almost as exciting as the fair itself. Nothing could beat the feeling of screaming with your friends on these rides.

It's been a tradition since freshman year for Alejandro, Theo, Davina, Nevaeh and I to go to the fair. The first time we went together was actually one of the first times we all hung out together. I think seeing each other get scared and enjoying the thrill of the fast rides helped us get close quickly.

This year, the tradition is a bit different. Someone new has joined, and I know she'll make it even better than before.

My head turns to Adeline sitting in the passenger seat, examining her face as she takes in the fair. I notice the corners of her lips turning up, her eyes almost glistening while observing the area. Her face makes my smile wider. I knew she'd like it.

"It's so good we came in the evening. It looks great at night," she says, facing me with the same expression on her face.

I nod in agreement, taking my car key out of the hole. "We always go here at this time. It's good that the sun sets so early in November because it leaves us with this view."

She hums, unbuckling her seatbelt while Indo the same. She pulls her phone out of her pocket, tapping on the screen before pressing the power button. "Do you think anyone will be here? We're early."

We agreed to meet at the entrance at six, but Adeline and I ended up leaving too soon. It's almost quarter to six now, but knowing our friends, I doubt they'll be early.

I shake my head, checking my phone to see that there's no messages from the other four. "No, they would've texted us."

She nods, her glossy lips parting slightly to let out a sound of agreement. "Are you scared of any of the rides?"

"No." The lie leaves my mouth in a slightly high pitched tone, making Adeline's lips tilt up in amusement. Truth be told, I was terrified a few of the rides here. The drop in my stomach is a familiar yet unsettling feeling. It's a miracle I haven't thrown up on one of these rides yet, but I have been very close to doing it.
