If someone told me that I would be baking malteaser brownies in a boy's house at five in the afternoon on a Wednesday, I would've said they were insane.

Somehow, I have ended up in that exact predicament.

As Levi and I were walking from school today, we thought that it would be nice to do our homework together in his house. My mom is working at this time and Levi's parents are away for the day to celebrate a close friend's birthday.

I texted Evie, telling her I wouldn't be home for a while since I was with a friend. Unfortunately, she spotted me walking into Levi's house, smirking at me when he looked away to open his door. She then replied to my text saying 'have fun with your boyfriend'. If I hadn't already been in his house by the time I read that text, I would've thrown my bag at her.

We finished our homework quicker than I thought. I usually find it hard to do work with others due to the talking, but we were very focused. I put on my headphones, he put in his earphones, and the only exchanges between us during that hour and a bit were a tap on the shoulder to say something.

As a small reward for working so diligently, Levi got a share bag of malteasers from a cupboard in his kitchen. He walked into the living room, where we had just done our homework, and sat beside me, his shoulder brushing against mine. He ripped open the bag, and despite him wearing a grey hoodie, I could vividly imagine his muscles tensing as he opened the packet.

That was when he got the idea to make malteaser brownies. I agreed quickly. I haven't had brownies in a while, and they're one of my favourite sweet treats. He checked his pantry and luckily, every ingredient we needed was there.

It was a spontaneous idea, but one that would have a great end result. I think the fact that I've never had a malteaser brownie before is what encouraged Levi even further to make it with me.

I put my hand over the melted chocolate, checking how hot it is. I took it off the stove a few minutes ago while Levi was whisking the sugar and eggs together.

I turn around to Levi, noticing him measuring the flour. "I'm pretty sure I can put the chocolate in. Do you want to check?"

Levi shakes his head, his eyes not leaving the weighing scale. "I'm sure it's ready. I trust you."

The corners of my lips turn up slightly at that. I pick up the bowl, moving to stand beside Levi. The chocolate looks amazing as I pour it into the bigger bowl. I use a wooden spoon to get out as much as possible, but a small amount of the dark liquid remains on its original bowl.

I use the same spoon to mix the chocolate into the other ingredients as Levi folds the top of the bag of the flour closed. "Do you bake much?" he asks, using his elbow to lean against the counter. He's now slightly shorter than me as he watches me stir the mixture.

I shake my head. "I don't bake much. I like cooking more. Evie does bake sometimes, though, but definitely not as much as I imagine you do." Rosa told me that whenever Evie would bake, she'd get annoyed at anyone trying to help her. I never asked for to help her, but even Madeleine wouldn't be allowed to do anything other than wash the dishes if she was baking, and Evie's preferred her over me. I wouldn't have stood a chance if I tried to help.
