I answered the detectives' questions the best that I could as we waited for my test results. Doctor Jeon had concluded that he needed to do an intensive blood test. With the help of the detectives, he was able to send my blood for forensic tests."It was strange, the entire time I was with him, Siwon didn't try anything further than kissing,” I said, wrapping up my story. The detectives, Cho Hye Won and Kim Tae Hee, had asked for permission to record the interview. As I finished, they turned off the recorder.
"Well, Miss Jones, you've had an eventful year, haven't you?" Detective Cho said, shaking his head.
"Honestly, I don't remember," I joked with a half-smile and a chuckle. The detectives chuckled along with me. The detectives stayed with me so they could hear my test results, after getting my permission. They were actually very kind and tried to keep me distracted.
"So, Miss Jones...” Detective Kim started to talk but I cut in.
"Em, please." I requested with a smile.
“Em, have you remembered anything from before your head trauma at all?" I could see them both being curious.
"I've had some flashes here and there," I admitted. "But it is so fragmented, I can't quite piece it together. I flashed once to a memory of Uncle Bang," I said quietly.
"Uncle Bang?" Detective Cho queried.
"Yes, I remembered during the flash that he asked me to call him that,” I thought for a moment. "I have an idea I want to run by the doctor. Maybe if I can recreate some things, maybe I can trigger my memory?" The detectives looked interested.
"Oh, that would be interesting to try!" Both detectives nodded. "Maybe we can help?" I looked at them confused.
"Why would want to help me? I thought you were only interested in my kidnapping?"
"Well, because we would need to interview you about that man's behavior from before, to help build the case." Detective Kim said, but got elbowed by Detective Cho. He was not impressed by his co-workers answer.
"Also, we've talked to the people involved in your life. They all love you, and miss you. The ‘you‘ before your accident. You seem like such an amazing person and want to meet that 'you' as well."
I could feel myself blushing at his words. "Aish, I doubt I'm someone amazing.”
A few hour later, and a nap from me on the hospital bed, the doctor returned with my blood tests.
"Miss Jones, it looks like you were given a benzodiazapam, with known side affects to affect the brain. Your kidnapper got lucky you were so affected by that medication. With the other medications in your system, you had a very affective medical cocktail going," the doctor gave me and the detectives a copy of my results.
"So, he definitely planned to take you eventually. The findings of the lawyers must have just sped him up," Detective Cho said writing some notes down on a small notepad.
I bit my lip feeling anxious. Now that we had the results I was finally processing what happened to me. I wasn't aware how affected I was until I felt a hand on mine. Looking down, I realized I was shaking. I closed my eyes as they started to fill with tears.
A text tone went off and then I heard Detective Cho speak.
"We let your family know you are here. Are you okay for some visitors. I couldn't -form words and felt a sob tear through my throat. As I began to sob heavily, there was a knock on the door.
Soon I was enveloped in a pair of arms with a familiar scent.
"P-papa!" I subbed out as he sat on the bed with me. I kept sobbing then felt myself being picked up and placed on his lap as he rocked me, crooning to me softly in French. I don't know how long we were like that before the door opened again.
