"I like the way you sound in the morning"
***Spot's POV***
A Week Later
One week until school starts. The only thing I'm looking forward to is football season. I worked things out with Ace, so I'm back to staying at his house. I haven't seen April since last week, when we hooked up again. I hung out at her house for a little longer before her friends called her and asked if she wanted to go play laser tag with them.
We've been texting all week, but we decided we wanted to do things right this time and not have her brother and friends freak out again. I'm pretty sure she told Sarah and Izzy about us already, and I told Ace, but otherwise we're just testing the waters. I'm fine with taking it slow because I don't want everything to end in disaster again, but I miss her and just want to see her. Once school starts, with our sport schedules, I know it will be harder to see her. Last night I had a dream that she was sitting in the stands for one of my football games, wearing my jersey, before I realized that wasn't possible. It will likely never be possible.
This morning, I'm on call with her because she's busy texting her friends to make plans but still wants to talk to me. I like the way she sounds in the morning.
"What if I joined your plans today?" I ask as April tells me about her current conversation with Sarah in her friends' group chat.
April laughs and I realize her laugh is the best sound I've ever heard. "Well, Race is going to be the only one not going today. If Blink, Mush, and Crutchy were hanging out with him, I would say you should, but they're not and I don't know if I'm ready to launch this at them."
I can't keep my focus when listening to her voice, I hear her words but I'm just thinking about how it would be if we were together. I would hang out with her, and her friends and she could hang out with me and my friends. We wouldn't have to worry about their feelings because they'd just be happy for us.
"Spot," April says, getting my attention again.
"Don't be afraid to jump then fall, Spark," I respond to her earlier statements.
"That's not good advice for someone about to go skydiving."
"What do you mean, that's the best advice. Also, you're going skydiving?"
"No. Sarah just suggested that. I'm telling her no."
"Skydiving sounds fun. We should go sometime."
"I've never been and I'm not planning on it."
"It's okay, I went once with Ace, so I'm basically a professional. You could be strapped to me if you like."
April scoffs. "Yeah, right. Anyway, I gotta go get ready now. Talk later?"
"Um, I was actually going to ask if I could come over tonight. I want to see you again."
April takes a deep breath on the other line. "Are you sure that's a good idea?"
"We don't have to if you think it's not going to end well. But it's been a week since I've seen you, and school starts next week, sports too, so when will I see you next?" I ask, noticing the hint of pleading in my voice.
