Twentyfour hours. One night and one day, that's how long Ben have been waiting too hear something, anything about his sister. Chris had been at the police station with him the whole time.
Everyone of his and Anna's players had been there at least once, some twice. Anna had been taking care of football practice. When she wasn't at practice she was sitting beside Ben holding his hand just like she was now.
After what felt like an eternity of waiting, the police officer that was put on the case came walking towards them. A pity full expression on his face.
"Have you heard something? Anything?" Ben shot up and out of the uncomfortably chair he had been sitting in.
"The man who was driving the car is now conscious. He have suffered a lot of head trauma and can't remember anything. He is completely out of it. The doctors is saying that he have a few hours left before he dies from the injuries, there is nothing they can do to help him. He was also extremely intoxicated." The police officer explained.
"Good." Ben muttered. But he knew everyone heard him. That was the point. He didn't feel sorry for that man. He hated him with every bone in his body. He never knew he could feel so much hatred towards another human being. But it was possible.
"Some good news is that we managed to unlock his phone. I think he knew what he was doing was wrong so he made a video. In that video he talks about Everleigh and she is also in the video. But it seemed like she was sleeping the whole time." The officer showed the three of them the video.
The man slurred out his words as he filmed Everleigh's sleeping form. The man meant no harm towards her, he said that he thought she was abandoned and talked on about how he hated her parents for doing such a thing.
Then it stopped. That is the last time anyone saw the sweet little girl.
"Obviously what he did was wrong. But he had no bad intentions which is good. Well as good as it gets. Now we know that she was in the car with him. We have a theory of what we think might have happened." The officer told them.
"The door on the said it seems like she was sitting was loos and hanging open when the paramedics got to the scene. Our detectives concluded that it was not opened, it just fell of. There is clawing marks on that side. I know it's not what you want to hear, but our theory is that a wild animal took its chance and dragged her out of the car." He said. Sadness in his voice.
Ben couldn't believe it. He hadn't even been thinking that was a possibility.
The thought made him want to throw up. The lump in his throat wanted to come up. And so it did. He ran to the nearest bin and threw up.
Anna stood frozen. Her face was pale. Sobs recked her body.
Chris was by her side in no time. Both her and Ben needed someone to lean on right now and it couldn't be each other so Chris had to do it even if he was just as disgusted and sad as they were.Sweet little baby Everleigh. They would never see her again. They just hoped that something else had happened to her, not for her to be a bears afternoon snack.
That didn't happen in real life, it only happened in horrible, scary movies, not in real life. Not their life.
It was a day the small town would never forget, a name that would forever hunt everyone,
Everleigh Jacobs.
