It's suffocating. The air around them was heavy, even if they're already outside, it was meant to have more 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘩 𝘢𝘪𝘳 than before.

Yet- it feels like drowning in this sorrowful moments.

His hollow eyes followed the very coffin sadly as the soldiers slowly lowered it to the ground. The soldiers aimed their weapons into the air and let out gunshots one by one, honoring their fallen comrade with each shot.

It was an honoring death, even the King was present to bid him a farewell along with other higher ranks soldiers but then again he doesn't seem to care of it. What made his heartaches more was the wailing of the little girl, even if her older brother tried to quiet her down it doesn't seem like it was working.

"Big brother." The girl tug at the boy's dark coat, almost gripping it tightly as she looks with teary eyes at the lowered coffin.

"Why are they putting all the dirt on Daddy?"

"Klee..." The boy had a pained look, he grip back the tiny hand.

As if the others doesn't mind or too annoyed to care, they ignore the desperate pleas of the tiny girl as she tried to reach out for the dead father. Continuing to put dirt after dirt on the coffin.

"𝘋𝘰𝘯'𝘵-" Small weak voice.

"Daddy can't go to work if you do that-" She tried reached out. It was heartbreaking, it hurts. Albedo immediately scooped up the tiny girl and hug her tighter and closely to him, ignoring the wailing of his sister as tears keep falling down.

"𝘕𝘰- Daddy always said he has lost of works-" She tried again and again, to get to her father, to get everyone to stop from whatever they're doing- cause it's 𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨. Everything is wrong-

"𝘋𝘰𝘯'𝘵-" Klee wailed. "𝘋𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘺 𝘩𝘪𝘮--"

" -𝘋𝘈𝘋𝘋𝘠!"

Everyone can only shamelessly turned their gaze away. Too weak, too coward to comfort the grieving girl and so was Diluc.

After all they're nothing but weak humans and so was Diluc

So he shut his eyes, and hopes that this will end sooner.

He shut his eyes and hoped that everything will end soon.

It was finally silence. The silence that he needs for him to accept everything... He slowly gaze towards the words engraved at the tombstone.

"Getting double promotion for dying in the line of duty..." Diluc murmurs.

"Brigadier General Ragnvindr, huh...?" What a remarkable tittle, a fitting name for him, even if it's used to be Captain Alberich. The old name and the old title that used to be lower than him. After all, Kaeya never likes to be on the spotlight, just living quietly under Diluc's shadow cause he knows that's where he felt safe. Like they used to be as children.

"You said you'd support me from below, Just what are you going to do now that you've gone up higher than me." -And he was supposed to be the older brother.

...

As always there's nothing but silence.

"You idiot." He finally said.

"Colonel." Diluc perks up at the familiar voice and turned around to look at the woman with blonde hair walking towards him.

"It's getting cold." The lieutenant- Jean said. "Aren't you going to go back?"

"Yeah, I will." He turned back towards the grave. Jean was finally by his side and he can feels that she was looking at him. Was she worried? Sometimes he can't read her, sometimes they're blank and cold-- but she's here with him and that's all matters.

"Alchemist are horrible people, 1st Lieutenant." He started off slowly, and Jean patiently waited for him to continue. "Right now..." He looks to the grave with a pained look as he dares to have a horrible thoughts that will make him a damn hypocrite.

"A part of me is desperately trying to develop a theory on human transmutation." The words taste bitter even on his tongue. He really is a hypocrite-

"Now i feel like i understand what those kids felt when they tried to transmute their mother."

Now he can finally feel the damned pain of loss. It hurts, it was so damn hurt. F*ck-

"...Are you alright?"

Right. Jean was still here, he can't breakdown now.

"I'm fine." He adjust the hat so it fit comfortably on him.

"...Oh, no." He looks up at the clear sky.

"It's raining."

Jean frowns confusedly as she looks around.

"It isn't rain-"

"No."

A tear slip down silently.

"𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨."
